Title: How do you all do it????
Post by: Canyon on November 02, 2009, 09:08:00 PM
It always amazes me how good the condition the bows I see in pictures that are posted usually are. I know you guys hunt these sticks. I do not consider what I do abuse but I use my Howard Hill bows hard running up and down Arizona's ugliest canyons, through the thickest brush in the worst of weather. Inevitably each hunt I get a ding, knick, scratch or some other visual defect.
My questions is how do you guys keep them in such fine condition and when is it time to think about a refinish job or to repair these dings? If you are refinsihing your own bows how are you doing it?

In my case, a little turtle wax goes a long way in maintaining my bows

I think country has a lot to do with it.   I rarely ding a bow over here on the West Side of WA.  It's leafy moist woods.   When I go over to the East side, more like your Arizona country, any fall, drop or bump is likely to involve rock, or grit and it's definitely harder on the bows.  (To say nothing of old knees...)

Dick you are right about the enviroment those volcanic rocks can do a number on a bow. I know if I was walking in to a treestand or ground blind the bows would hold up much better but my hunts generally involve half falling off a  mountain.

I use the rubber material tape that has no glue but it stick's to itself and wrap the limbs. It works well for me
