Looks like the "noise" is working... Great pics!
Great pics, Why no shot? The first one looked like a good buck.
Yep, give me the Can and a grunt tube any day!!
Very nice pictures. Thanks for the heads up. Looks like you are hunting in a good area.
Makes me feel right in purchasing a grunt tube this year.
Clay, the buck was tempting, but just didn't set off the green lite!
Any of you guys just starting usin calls, just don't go overboard on loud or often. They really do work, but real bucks don't run around gruntin nonstop or fightin all the time.
I like to call a couple times the first and last hour of daylite. May not be the "right" way but works for me fairly often, especially this time of year.
I always have a grunt tube with me when on stand. The last 2 years I have also carried a can and a fawn bleat has been in my pack for 20 years. Never had a deer spook when calling and had many come to see what's up.
I carry a rattling bag too(or rattling antlers)but over the years only attracted one tiptoeing spike right at dark.
With a little practice you can make a grunt and other calls with your mouth.
A few years back I was using some climbing sticks. A gust of wind caught my bow as I was hauling it up and it bang on the steps. It got caught and i "rattled" if loose. I was dissappointed at all the noise I had made getting in the stand. that is till I had oldder spike come into the noise I been hunting for a couple of yrs.
I went to the store and got a rattling bag. Called him in two more time that season but still never got a shot.
you knew it was him because he had one very tall antler on his port side and big lump of antler that was down over his starboard eye.
rusty
great pics. the buck looking up through the trees is reel cool.
Great pix Ken. Patience.
Nice picks Kenny
There starting to move pretty good over here to, I haven't seen any doe chases yet but the bucks are sure roaming and making alot of scrapes.
:goldtooth:
Tracy
I have called in several deer blind calling. Bucks and does. This year I noise-spooked a doe a couple weeks ago and got her to come in with aggressive and pitiful fawn bleats. Never got a shot but she was coming straight to me. Yesterday I did a series of doe bleats and buck grunts and had the biggest deer I have ever seen in the woods come like a trailing hound dog right past me. I grunted and called him by me at 20 feet. He was so intent on finding a buck that he didn't even slow down so no shot but it was really cool.
I agree with Pat B, they rarely do any harm.
Gettin ready to head out, warm today, will wait til late to make noise! Unless I see one goin by outta range! ;)
Nice job Kenny.
Nice Kenny!
Nice calling. What kinda calls are ya using? I generally bleat a couple times, and then do a tending grunt. Brings em right in...
Never tried any calls or grunts myself...I will tomorow though, heading to Sports Academy now.
Right now I'm using a Hunters Specialties rattlebag(rattled my 2 best in with it),and a set of 10 pt sheds with the brows cut off.
Bro gave me the rattlebag years ago.
An old wooden primos grunt that you suck air thru to make the call.
Also a M.A.D. Buck Growl(only used as a grunt), use it backwards and suck thru it,I just like the sound better. My oldest son gave me this one.....
Cool Kenny. I love callin to-em too. I may have shot that first buck...but then...I am weak that way.
Good luck.
Randy.
Does will definitely respond to fawn in distress bawling. I've done it many times. When you use the can, just make sure to tip it over quickly. A slow bleat is more of a danger call, according to what I learned from a whitetail "expert". I tested this theory after I had heard about it. A long bleat done with the can has sent deer packing on several occasions, so I'm a believer.
I was hunting on the ground many years ago in December (pre second rut) and rattled in a brute of a buck from a couple hundred yards away. He was missing his right side because of an injury. He had a healed over lump along his back on the opposite side. He would have been a heavy 10, probably pushing 140. I think it really helps to tear up the brush and pound the ground while you do. He came trotting in and was about 6 feet away from me at one point. Problem was that he didn't stop until there was a thick bush between us. He definitely had the sound source location pegged. My heart was pounding out of my ears, but he was close enough I could hear him breathing and licking his nose. Never got a shot at him, because my friend was hunting about 150 yards away and had shot a button buck just then. When that deer crashed in the woods, it spooked my deer.
I think timing is everything when you call deer though. Do it at the wrong time and you may as well be throwing rocks at them.
Randy,by Jan 15,I may wish I had shot the 1st one!! Right now I'm havin the most fun legally to be had!!
Another little one,if I ever get the one I want to come by,hopefully you'll be seein a different kinda pics! LOL
About 18-20 yds

Sorry about the crappy pics,it wasn't too long before dark!
I love the one looking up.Great pics thanks for sharing
Great pics Kenny! I don't go into the woods without my grunt call. The rattle bag, not so much luck with that over the years
I rattled in a spike last weekend...no shooters though. I think they are mostly chasing does now, so they are not much interested in fighting.
Pics look great to me Kenny. My imagination blocks out the "fuzziness". I'm gonna try rattlin a mountain Mule deer in this year with my old set of whitetail horns.
Love the pics. Thanks..
The one looking up at you is way too cool.
That's a really good buck in my area.
