Title: Re inventing the wheel!
Post by: Cyclic-Rivers on October 30, 2009, 07:25:00 PM
Last night while target practicing I conducted a science experiment.

You see I forgot what would happen when I shoot an arrow directly into a concrete wall, so I figured I would try it again.  Well I found out.  I guess I could have just asked here instead of re-inventing the wheel.

I have one less practice arrow in case anyone else was curious the outcome of the experiment!

Just one more fella here for you guys to poke fun at.  Looking forward to meeting you guys.

Charlie,

To share the results of other experiments, and maybe save you an arrow or two, steel plates and stone walls have pretty much the same effect on arrows.

Was the impact anywhere near as spectacular as hitting the wheel of a Ford F-250?
Never mind you don't want to know.  I didn't know an aluminum arrow would shatter like that!
But I did get pretty good penetration with a Woodsman with a brass insert and a steel broadhead adapter!

That's funny!  I saw a video on U-tube where a guy shot the side of his truck. Put a nice ding in it.  Can't help but laugh.

Rocks are also not far removed from any of the above, but don't think they'd dent like the truck, none that I've hit have anyway.

Once I decided to practice some longs shots near dusk by standing on the edge of the street and shooting into the garage (about 40 yards.)  I put a hole in my wife's new ceramic kiln and the gas tank of my lawn mower before I gave up the ship.  JB Weld worked like a charm on the tank and a brass plug patched up the kiln nicely.

Oh, yeah!  The first time I shot my Zwickey broadheads I obviously didn't have them tune correctly, cause I shanked one off the top of the target and right into the concrete block wall.  The sucker hit the mortar and stuck like it was in a tree!  I straightened the tip, sharpened her up and kept rolling!
