Well folks it has been a roler coaster ride for me, of adrenaline and emotion. This morning 45 minutes after daylight, heard some faint call, yelped and purred a couple of times, nothingg. Well I thought you cant be lucky all the time, so I sat back and was just enjoying the morning on my day off and Then I hear a cluck,purr.I grab my bow and sure enough, have barely got ahold of it when 5 hens show up, about 14 yards out. Two look right at me, I try to stay still but my bow is shaking. They finally decide that this is just the wind blowing that funny looking limb. I wait and wait, every time I have a shot one or more of the hens are looking at me, got educated a little yesterday. Finally I have ones back to me at 16 yards, and the others have stuff between me and them, so I ease the bow up, make sure I have the grip the way it likes to be held, anchor and pull through. About the time I do this the hen bends over pecking at something and the arrow slides right up her back, into the neck and comes out the side of the head! A near miss turned into a quick kill!
The back shot would have not even hurt the bird, only nicked the skin, but the woodsman had hit the spine hard with one blade on the neck and had just followed up the neck and out the right side. Never said I was good, rather be lucky. I was hunting with a Tradtech Pinnacle riser, new set of #50 Recurve Carbonwood limbs. I had just gotten these limbs in a trade this week, made a string and gotten it tuned up too suit me yesterday. The bows grip is a little big for me,might have been why I shot high, or the bird moved, or it could just have turned out the way it was supposed to. Filling all 4 tags this fall is a bigger trophy for me than any deer I have killed. I have never imagined I would get 4 trad birds in one fall, would have been satisfied with one. The more I hunt trad, and the lifestyle that goes with it, the more I have been blessed, by the folks I meet and get to know, how my thinking has changed, and with each new trophy I harvest. I feel every kill, whether deer, turkey or squireel is special, to me any way. Just thought I would share with you all. Turkey for dinner tonight!

Congrats and good job! Don't know many people who kill 4 birds a year with a gun, didn't know any who killed 4 with a trad bow in a season until now! :)

Well guys,I appreciate the cudos, but fact is a lot of luck, and a big turkey population in my area last 3 years. I hate to burst your bubble, but these birds have had no, I mean no hunting pressure for 3 years. I killed one last year in the spring/shotgun, and one with a longbow, have had several good years of weather/mast crops and huge turkey broods. I am just hunting from my deer blinds, deer and turkey using same travel routes, food plots and a few acorns dropping to keep them interested. This is on private land, no body bothering them, just not that spooky and a few dumb young birds eventually blunder by. I do shoot daily, and can connect most of the time, when given a shot opportunity.Of course I miss my share, but am getting pickier about my shots the older I get. I would rather be lucky than good, and we all know what a fickle gal lady luck can be.I am just grateful for the opportunity to hunt, be healthy, take whatever comes in opportunities.Thanks for the replies guys.
