still trying for my 1st archery kill. found a dead fork horn under my stand. someone had gut shot him and he happened to drop under my stand. carcass was pretty ripe by the time I found him. I moved the deer but is the stand no good because of the lingering smell? thanks in advance for your opinions. BB
bet you will see some coyotes!
it won't bother a thing except you. The smell is natural in the woods and deer don't give a hoot about it.
I've shot deer within 20 ft of a 3 day old gutpile more then once.

The only thing that would keep deer away would be any predators the gut pile might attract. Otherwise the icky stuff will be gone in a week.
Id hunt it. Death is part of nature.
Id be more concerned someone would see the rotting carcass...see my stand/me...and assume 'I" was the one responsible.
I second that High Mountain. How many times have you seen deer freshly killed on the road next to a rotten one, they don't mind at all neither should you.
had one dog broadside at 45 yds. wouldn't come in. high mountian, your 2nd point is a good one. thanks....
My son shot a decent buck a few years ago. We field dressed him in the back corner of the field. The next day an even nicer buck was seen standing over the gutpile. Scent drew him in maybe? I don't know.
