Title: Ground blind - best options?
Post by: Rando on October 25, 2009, 12:55:00 PM
I'd like to pick up a ground blind to use when I have my daughter along... and whenever. I would like to find one:
1. with dimensions that will accomodate a longbow but isn't too huge
2.is packable and easy to set-up & take down
3.won't cost me an arm & leg - I'm on a tight budget and not sure how much use it'll see until I give it a try.

Thoughts / ideas / recommendations are much appreciated!!

Yukon Tracks Enforcer / Enforcer Elite fits all your requirements, except that it's huge.   ;)

With a 70x70" footprint and 80" tall, it is big.  However, I shoot a 62" recurve and I want every inch of space it has.  Depending on how long your longbow is, you may have to cant it for some shot angles.

Going down your list:

1.  70x70x80
2.  17lbs, in the bag, with shoulder/carry straps. About 1 minute setup/takedown.
3.  $100 to $140, depending on model and store/sales.

I second the vote for Yukon tracks enforcer- plenty of room; and easy set up; and pretty light.

i just picked up a primos predator den from cabelas for 130 bucks....WOW! this thing is great. me, my 62" hoyt and my 3 yr. old got in it and had plenty of room. it sets up quick, has 12 shoot thru windows, pockets on the inside for storage, and it has brush holders all around the top and mid section.

Check with Premos , they have some deals on DBL Bulls that I believe are seconds or returns.

I would put a listing in the classifieds to see what you come up with.

I have been impressed with the one that TRA had on their web site in the last few months. I don't see it in the catalog though. Ron LeClair sells them also. At least he did and I suppose he still does. Light, easy to set up and stays up in the wind with a few stakes.

It may be more than you want to spend, but at our local Cabellas, they almost always have nice Double Bull blinds in their bargain cave.  I got mine there for $289 and that seems to be the standard price for a returned DB blind.  Regular is pretty close to $400.

The Double Bulls have been copied by a lot of other companies in recent years but most I've seen have had different fabric that tended to seem shiny to my eyes.  Whatever you get, see if you can test it by setting up and taking down in the store.  Also, be sure to test the windows and see if they are noisy to open or close.  Zippers and velcro on windows can both be very noisy.

If you happen across a blind with a floor in it, RUN!  Well, not really but floors and ground blinds don't go together in most cases unless you are setting it up on a nicely mowed lawn.  Also, look at window height and size.  Some are almost too low to comfortably shoot out of and others are just small.  I love my Double Bull Matrix model with 360 degree shooting capability and their silent window system.
