Title: im just curious...dont kill me:)
Post by: bmb on October 20, 2009, 03:29:00 PM
let me first say that i have found a new joy in archery, along with recurves, i now have alot of fondness for the longbow. its all ive been shooting lately....ok now that ive said that. here goes my question- why did alaska bowhunting supply decide on a longbow as the bow, in their ultimate hunting system. i am not asking to start any sort of fight. im just curious on the reasons. although ive only been shooting mine for a month or so. i cant tell if there more forgiving, more durable, less likely to have limb twist...etc..

anyone have thoughts?

thanks guys

I do, but am afraid to voice an opinion....   :saywhat:

Actually, its 'cause longbows are just cool!

I dunno why they picked a longbow, but THAT longbow is a great choice!

in my opinion only;

- not as picky (stable)
- "typically" quieter (but all bows can be made such)
- modern materials and designs have narrowed the performance gap of the past
- something tells me that the production of a 'curve limb requires more than a LB limb

ah heck, they are just cool - accept it.

it is a great design. do you think that recurves will ever be second choice( in general) to a r/d longbow?

the difference has become quite "blurred"

In my rarely humble opinion this one of those Chevy v. Ford trucks questions - some people like one, some the other and as a result, both companies sell trucks.  Anyway, anything that leads to more and better stuff to play with is a good thing.  For me, I can mess up a shot with any kind of bow that's ever been made.

I don't buy the more forgiving pitch. look at the IBO scores.  Quieter I'll go with.

Alaska Bowhunting Supply is known for selling very few items but those they do carry are usually the best of the best...PR

My thoughts exactly.  If it can be missed...I'll miss it.

I have shot many a longbow and recurve, and I don't really find a longbow more stable than a decent recurve.  I like both, but the ultimate in anything is up to the shooter; one size doesn't fit all.  It's certainly not my ultimate hunting system, not by a long shot (no pun intended) 8^).

I think it depends on the bow.  Sometimes my release is off, varied pressure from the drawing hand fingers.  With some longbows it shows up as bad as it does with some recurves, but with Hill style longbows the variance hardly makes any difference.  I have had target recurves that were just as forgiving in this way, but hunting length recurves give me cat fits when I least expect it.

ask abs and satisfy your curiosity.

in the long run, it just doesn't matter.  stickbow types are purely subjective and all are worthy and up to the hunting task, as long as the operator knows how and when to use it.

With the new R/D designs on many modern-day LB's.....yeah...the line has DEFINITELY been blurred.  Add to that the overall mass weight in the T/D riser - for stability......and it gets dang near invisible.

I just ordered a 3pc T/D Longbow from the Windauers......and I'm wondering what Howard Hill would have considered that bow to be?

I chuckle a little bit when I see people shooting at 3D shoots with these "longbows" (and I'm getting ready to join 'em).

Make sure it's a blunt email, since you are shooting it 8^).

I shoot both. I find I like both, it just depends on my "Mindset" at the time if I shoot one better than the other.

Both are fun to shoot. Just pick one and master it before you start bouncing back and forth between the two.
