I know, I know... it's deer season!!
Wanted to start a thread; to get the discussion started for a date to meet at Atterbury to stomp and romp thru the bunny grounds.
Everyone is Welcome: must come with a sense of humor!
Just let me know the date and I'll make sure I'm there again!
Good deal, we just need to give everyone time to plan...I'm thinking 23 and 24 January...

I'll make it work! Actualy anytime from jan 1st to the end of seasons fine by me!
Adeeden, you may just have company on that drive !
Brew

No problem Bill actuallythere may be several of us fron here car pooling!

I'll be there....just let me know the dates....terry
I'll have to check and see if that is my weekend off or not.
BTW, how did the S. Indiana Deer Hunt go?
Bona
It was fun with everyone getting opportunities. It just didn't quite come together as far as taking the venison home. Still, very nice to share a weekend with some of the greatest poeple I know. Billy and I practically floated out of camp on Thursday night. I think we got 4" of rain. Good thing we were both staked down well :)
Would love to make it again this year, but that is probally not going to happen.I am facing back surgery in the near future.Trying to hold off until after deer season ,but it is getting tougher every day.
I'm in West Lafayette, how far is that from me? I'd like to go.
Sounds like a good date. However I never know until it comes around. I will plan on being there.
Yep, that's what I was afraid of, that is my weekend to work.
Bona
Dang Mike hate to hear it about your back man. Was looking forward to getting together for some bunny hunting myself.
I have been an avid rabbit hunter for a few years now with a shotgun and always hunt over dogs. Do you guys hunt over dogs with a bow?
Kris I don't see the surgeon until Dec 1 so we might be able to do a little hunting.
Sounds good Mike We'll get together.
When I was a kid I used to live in northern I.N., me and my buddy wuold go huntin rabbits with our bows, it's a blast. We'd hunt along fence rows, growed up ditch lines and wood lots.
The shin deep snow made it even more fun, dont get much for snow in T.N. but I may still get out and try some this year, ya'll kinda got me in the notion.
Ya'll have fun.
Sorry folks, been runnin the highways and by-ways.
Ok, first since this thing was Bona's suggestion...we can't do this without her!!
The last weekend is better for Bona. It will be easier for me to get time off after the 23d weekend than before....
Do you guys mind doing this the 28th and 29th, instead?
I know we were trying to get it on the third weekend but, it will be easier for Bona and I, and hopefully some others; the last weekend.
Sorry, for the switch, hope you forgive me.
From West Lafayette, it's about 90 miles one way.
Couple of guys did bring dogs last year, sounded kinda cool. Don't remember if they had shots, or not.
Chili is back on the menu for Saturday......
hey, you guys.....!!!!!
28th and 29th's good by me!
OK
Sounds Good.
I'll do my best to be there. Let you know closer to time.
fine by me, i'll be there
Wait, do you mean the 30-31st? The 28-29th are on Thursday and Friday.
If life starts throwing me fast balls instead of curves and change ups I'll be there. I'll keep track of the post.
yep, that's right John.
I was typing and requesting time off, at the same time..I'll do it this way...
:knothead:
Anywho, that's the right weekend and dates now. all day Saturday and Sunday til @ noonish...30-31 Jan.
Here's hopin' for a skift o' snow and lotsa arras flung.
ttt for Covey.
Jan 30 and 31 it is then. I bet we have some snow ;) :D
I'm gonna try to make it this year! for one reason I would like to meet some of you folks and the other reason is to fling some arras and maybe by chance if I'm lucky and the stars are all in line I might hit one of them wabbit's! HA! Jason

Chili will return to the crock.

I'm gonna try my hardest to break the record from last year!!
Setting a higher goal and all :wavey: :archer:

We're putting one together for the 23rd here in central Missouri for the 23rd too. It's looking like we could have a good turn out. I hope so and hope we also get into some bunnys.

Hey Covey,
I'm planning on going, but my partner's wife is due around that time so I am having to play things by ear right now. If I can still go I live just to the east of you over here by Brownstown. I'll try and let you know when it's a little closer to going.
Got a call tonight; yep it's still a Go !!

If you send me an email, I can send you a Google Earth placemark.
Americanhunter7, Sounds good! Just let me know when you find out! Thank's, Jason
Anybody got a Farmer's Almanac weather report on that weekend??
What kind of arras are ya bringing?
Cheap ones :)
Are you doing the dowel rod/nutter arras?
I've got some shafts with hex heads, steel blunts and my nutters....I'll be packing a bow-in-progress and my knapping start up kit, hoping to find a knapper to help me start.
A couple of us will be in Friday evening and out by Saturday evening, cause someone else is booked in the cabin for Sunday. But, we should have a good Saturday.
I was looking at the hunting areas on Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area. They have some interesting areas I would like to check out. Like "Honker Haven", "Possum Puddle", "Mallard Marsh", "Gopher Hole", 'Coyote Marsh", and "Mink Meadow Marsh".
My son and I will be there at about noon on Friday.
Guys, I am not going to make it this year, and was really looking forward to it.
I have the oppurtunity to work that weekend and with losing my job back at the first of the year have to take advantage of it!
Take lots of picture's and let me know how it went!
Billy,
Yes, I am making some ramin arrows. 2 fletch, with a field point and they cost me less than a buck each. Now find me some bunnies to fling these things at.
My son James is probably a 90% not gonna make it. He said something about sitting around a fire Friday night with a bunch of old folks doesn't sound like much fun :)
I'm pondering just going home late Friday and then dragging him back there in the morning for the hunting.
Thanks a lot James...now I'm old..lol!!
5 days ... we'll be in the cabin around 6pm Friday. Anyone that wants to, is welcome to join us.
Ethan & RJ will be in around 6-7. I will be in around 3-4. Brent and Declan will be in some time that evening.
Still hoping for two of my driving buddies will make it.
So its in Atterbury? Is it in the wildlife area?Me and my buddy would like to come thanks.
John posted a small pic (above) the cabin is at the north end/nw corner of the park area.
You are Welcome to join us.
Those coming on Saturday, will probably be there around 7a.m. Saturday.
Thanks Billy hope I can come meet you all.
Puttin it back up top, in case someone missed it..
I've got some poplar dowel soaked in Danish oil arrows coming along very well. I don't think they are under a dollar, but still pretty cheap! :D
This is gonna be fun!
Oooh snow. Should stick around 'til Saturday! We got 2" or so on the Southside of Indy. Atterbury's 30 miles south of me so we should have some on the ground down there.
Snow :scared: the bunny tracks'll be everywhere :D
Up and packin'...headin' out about noon...here wittle wabbit....ahunting we will go,ahunting we will go... :smileystooges: C Ya'll there..

There is a sign for Johnson County Park at 252 and 325E. The Boy Scout Cabin is North of the park.
Here are the directions to the park from their website.
From Indy:
Take I-65 South to Exit 90 (Franklin) --- go west on SR 44 to US Hwy. 31--- turn left onto 31. Go 5 miles to SR 252 West --- turn right. (Just before you turn you'll see a HUGE rocking chair at Long's Furniture World.) Take SR 252 W two miles to County Road 325 E --- turn left. You will see Johnson County Park/Hoosier Horse Park signs at the turn. The park is located 2 miles south on that road, which becomes Schoolhouse Road.
From Louisville:
Take I-65 North to Exit 76-B (Edinburgh) --- you'll see Edinburgh Outlet Mall. Go to the third traffic light, counting the one at the mall --- turn left at the 3rd light. You'll turn onto Hospital Road, although there isn't a sign at that location. You will see Camp Atterbury, Johnson County Park and Hoosier Horse Park signs as you approach. Go 3 miles to Schoolhouse Road --- turn right.
I dont think I can make it fellas maybe next time.
Well How did it go? Sure wish i could have made it again! Anyone got any updates or stories?
I wanted to be there but recently laid off and short funds kinda put's a hault on thing's. I'd like to here some story's though. Good Hunting guy's and gal's! Jason
I was there last night but some family obligation sprevented me from hunting today. Last night was great with some bowmaking, arrowmaking, conversation and overall good fellowship. There were ten or so overnighters. I think several were coming for the day.
Okay, I got the cobwebs out of my head...well I'm here...
Went outback and shot at target balls and a feed sack filled box, hedge apples and leafs...around 1100, we all headed out for some brush bustin', weed stompin' and generally good laughs...
Saw a few rabbits and took a few shots, headed back toward the cabin - stumpin' the whole way - just don't challenge Declan, that 7 year old can shoot!!!
We talked, strolled, shot and hooted and hollered. Got back to the cabin for Maria's chilli and Joe's wife "J"(don't wanna misspell) had brought some tasty chill in as well.
Then, it was back outside for more "stumpin" and laffs. We just kinda flowed in and out of the building; working on this or that arrow or bow.
We talked about maybe moving the date a week or two behind K'zoo (thoughts or ideas welcome).
About 5 Saturday we started the clean up and by 6 all were on the roads home.
Not a large number, but a good group and lots of fun had. Sorry that some of you could not join us this year, but understand.
We will be planning to do it again for 2011...any and all are Welcome to join what has become a stumpin',tinkering, informal bunny romp, and good time!

Down time in the cabin.

I'm trying to get some videos up but having some trouble. I'll keep trying so come back later.
Good times with good people!! Next year we are kicking around making it a 3 day event. Thinking of having a bow bee with a rabbit hunt thrown in???? Seems like most people want to work on equipment ect....
If ANYONE has any ideas please tell us as that's the only way we can make this event better
I'm sorry I missed it this year. Sometimes life happens :(
'sokay trapperdave; bunch of folks in the same boat; those of us there, missed all of you and look forward to next year..
like Joe said, we need input... the date, the place, ideas??? What'll make it easier,better..??
I hope Bona gets those videos up; I think you'll enjoy them.
Billy, good talkin' to you tonight...and welcome to the CCSofA...8^). Waitin' for warmer days here, but I did get out for a several hour stump shoot over at Shawnee State Park. Stickbowhtr...Bill Nordby stopped by and we "flang" a few. I'll keep an eye out for the videos. Stay safe.
