Been around archery for 50 plus years and there have been many firsts during that time frame. I had another and will probably be my most memorable first ever. I took up arrowhead knapping a couple of years ago. I worked at it occasionaly at first but then this past year I hit it pretty hard. So hard that I developed tendonitis in my right shoulder. I say it was worth it but my wife who is a nurse questions my logic. I made four decent heads and attached them to wood arrows. I shot my first deer with a stone head the other night. Made a lung shot on a doe. She went about 70 yards and piled up. My son found the deer and we were like a couple of school kids high 5 ing each other. It is a hunt I will never forget.
Congrats on your first, "stone dead " deer Jon !
nocams :notworthy:
Man thats great.
Congats Jon on your stoned deer.
Dave
Congrats! Thats on my list of to do's :D
I have tried knapping and only succeed in making small rocks out of big rocks. Can you post pictures of your heads? Congrats on getting a deer with a primitive head.
Good job.Primitive kill is next on my list.NOw I have to find the time to nap.
Had the DNR check the head today. She was at least 5 1/2 yrs old. She was a big old dried up doe. She was with another doe that was just as big.
Cool!
Congrats!!!
Any chance for some pics of the stone heads and the doe???
That is my goal this year, to harvest a deer with this head. I knapped this this summer out of Dacite

Thats awsome! Congrats.
Now let's see those pics.
Good job with the deer, take care of the shoulder, or you won't be able to shoot the bow either! Get better at percussion knapping...
An Ishi stick makes pressure flaking a lot easier.
WOW!!! How cool!! That's the way to do it. Some time when I find one of those "roundtoits" I'd love to go all homemade. So Sweet!!
too sweet...congrats
