Got this guy last Wednesday. Took the day off from work and glad I did! Saw him crossing in front of me along the edge of a Phragmites patch. gave a quick cow call and next I knew he was on fast approach. I was sitting on the ground in a clump of switch grass for cover and he never saw me. Arrowed him at seven yards. He was down within 15 seconds thankfully. These guys can be easy to lose in these marshy covers.

At 65 pounds, these little elk are a little easier to pack out than their American counterparts! Hauled him over a mile back to the truck using my bike. First time for that and worked like a charm!

Congrats on the stag. I've been wanting to give them a try for a while now. I grew up on the marsh and there is nothing like it. Once that smell hits your lungs, you'll never forget it.

Good job. I was in MD last week hunting sikas. Shot a small spike and missed a doe. Heard lots of bugling. It's maybe the funnest animal I've ever hunted.
Good job on the pixs Steve....stag looks alot better in those photos then the crappy one on the cell phone LOL
Great looking Stag
Good job getting one before the thundersticks start booming Thursday!
Nice Going!!

Are those Native to MD? Now I want to hunt one. lol.
Cool hunt great story.
Charlie
They aren't native to MD but Japan and were introduced to MD in 1916 when released by a wealthy land owner. They primarily live in marshland. Check this out.
Sika deer (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/wildlife/sikadeer.asp)
A beautiful deer!
Man I want to do that hunt...I am gonna offer a trade a hunt next year for a fat Illinois whitetail. I helped with the taxidermy on a stag a few years back. Their ivories are awesome: Elk-like teeth. GREAT JOB on an awesome animal!
They bow hunted them on Bowhunter Magazine TV...they said they were a very hard animal to get, it took the guy two trips to get his.
That is awesome!
Josh
Thanks for all the kind words gents. Carried my bow on opening day of muzzleloader today. Had a nice six point come into my stand at muzzleloader distance.
Wanted to thank the gentleman who offered the delta quiver. Very generous offer but not needed. Using a safari tuff this year. Thanks though!
I would trade a hunt for a fat Illinois whitetail! Hunting mostly public lands for whitetails, I've never killed the kind I hear about in Illinois!
Hope to have another pic to post in the next couple days. Stay tuned!
Congrats on a fine bull ;)
Very cool...I have been wanting to hunt these critters for a few years now; just havent gotten out there yet.
I want a picture of you riding the bike while sitting on top of the Sika! Now that would be something to see! : )
I lent my bike to a friend to haul out his sika deer. Showed him how to load it then said, "alright, now hop on and pedal!" he said. "You're kidding....right?"
That Awesome Steve
Lived in Md all my life (47 years) and have yet to hunt those sika deer. Maybe one day !
Thats a good one ! Congrats !
Awesome!
