Where is the best place to find this stuff? What is the best brand? I know everybody has their own opinion, but I would like to here them. I've been wearing alot of wool this year and I am amazed at how well this stuff works!! Help a feller out!! Thanks, Jason
I like Smart Wool. Try their website and you will have a number of selections to review.

I've never used wool, is merino a good base layer? I have an old shirt that is merino but never thought about useing it in cold weather.- Steve
Smart Wool for sure!
I'm with Claudia , Smart wool is the way to go, I have used it for years in all types of climate, mostly cold and wet.
Jason, we get issued Smartwool, and it may be the cheapest of the other brands- but Arcteryx and Icebreaker brands are good too. I like the Smartwool as its made in the USA, and I can pick up socks at the same time.
Smart wool works great for me. Be sure to buy some of their socks they are really nice and last forever.
I have a vote for smartwool, it works, fits next to skin, I also have there neck gaitor goes well with the longjohns. Haven't tried woolpower herd lots of good things seems a bit thicker than smartwool, for those cold sits on stand.
Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated! Jason
Ibex also makes marino wool clothing...
Ulfrotte' is great, but I think their named changed last year. I have some original and it is awesome.

Justin Charles is my brand

Google-up merino wool underwear. There is a big price difference between much of it. Remember, you don't need to spend your week's salary to keep warm.
My wife bought me ulfotte last year, and man what a differace, was out in -20 with it and ron's shirt, wool bibs and muck boots, didn't get cold. here is the site now woolpower.

I use the Ulfrotte it's also called Woolpower. Check out 3 Rivers, they sell it.
Awesome stuff!
I also just bought some First Lite. I will have it next week. I will give a update. It's a little cheaper then Woolpower, and has a higher percentage of Merino wool. Suppose to be even softer on the skin.

I took a look at the smart wool site, SHEESH!! 75 dollars just for the lowers. Now, I realize quality costs more, but I have to tell you, I can buy Duofold heavy weight Merino wool lowers for 23 dollars. Is Smartwool 50 dollars better?
I have been very happy with my Duofold longhandles.
I got the Ulfrotte 400 an its pricey but works great
I just bought some Kenyon Australian Merino wool from Overstock.com and I really like it.
ulfrotte is far and away the best, imho.
I second Ulfrotte.
Look at Minus 33
Ulfrotte itches and the zippers dig into my neck. I prefer Smartwool.
Bought some merino wool from Cab-las and not very good, might as well wear sweatpants. I'm with Doug77 Justin Charles
A friend of mine has the Justin Charles! it's nice stuff but man it's expensive! I would like to find some for a little cheaper! I know you get what you pay for but there's got to be some for a liitle less! Thank's, Jason
Covey,
"Hear me now, Believe me later " I got one word for you and I will hush.....

I bought a pair of "Thermawool" from Campmor. The tops and bottoms were $30 each. I'm on my second year with them and they seem great. No itch and no stink.I don't own a pair of Woolpowers so I can't really compare them.
Check out FirstLite

Here is my take on ?Smartwool cost. You will buy them once. I have their socks and they outlasted any I have ever owned bar none. They also performed better for the duration.
I have their bottoms and see no reason why they won't last me the rest of my usable hunting lifetime-ie by the time I can't walk they might be ready to retire too. So 30 years. Unless I do something stupid and throw them in the dryer after every wash.
The details are why they are more expensive- better seams, better waist band by far than duofold and better wools.
Sure they cost, but every time you use them you will be thinking "Wow glad I got these".

I've got some Terramar merino, about half the cost of Smartwool and works every bit as well. I rarely use synthetic as a base layer now. 100 million sheep can't be wrong!
I've got the Terramar also. I really like them, but was sad to see they are made in China. Hap
The best for me, so far, is Devold.

I just used the Ulfrotte set from 3R for the first time yesterday. I'm very pleased so far. It's my first set of merino wool so I can't compare but I like these.
Woolpower is fantastic stuff. Buy it once and you'll have it a very long time unless you grow out of it. LOL
I've found the best layering system for when my Michigan weather turns brisk is UA Cold Gear against the skin and then Woolpower over that.
Thanks for this discussion. After spending two very chilly evenings in the stand underclothed I just ordered some Woolpower. Will add my impressions once they get a test.
Posting on this site takes alot of the guess work and trial and error out of buying thing's!! your responses are greatly appreciated! Thank's, Jason
