I have a nice King of the Mountian jacket that I got off tradgang earlier this year. Since I have never owned wool I was wondering how you wash it without getting UVs and dry cleaning fragrances?
Wash it in cold water with non sent soap.Hang dry.
Shuuuuwwwweeee I'm glad you are talking about a garment!
Delicate Setting or Hand Wash?
TJ, LOL
You can hand wash or use delicate cycle in my humble opinion IF you have a newer washer WITHOUT the agitator. The older style washers with agitator can pull on the wool and make it shrink. Most wool manf will tell you if you have any heat, water, or agitation in combo you have the chance to shrink your wool.
I would rather hang it out to simply air out and brush with a good stiff bristle brush for mud. If it is indeed bloody, then hand wash or as gentle cycle as your washer has, then hand block to shape and air dry. Wool does not need to be washed in my book unless it is bad bloody.

You can wash in cold water on delicate cylce with shampoo or baking soda, or un scented soap, either the green stuf for your body or unscented laundary soap for hunting cloths. After spin cycle, lay flat on the ground over a towl or line dry.

Thats exactly how I feel and have been treating my KOM for the past 10 years.
If you really must, go to the local laundry-mat and use the fron load machines (no center agitator drum). Cold/Cold on gentle (or wool/Hand Wash cycle). Baking Soda or Borax, and hang dry.
Mint, you got it bud! I went over 6 years on mine without washing because the layers under are what get stinky and need to be washed.
It was a warm weather hunt that did mine in as I couldn't layer under it. Some of the "odor eliminator' sprays can also do a good job if sprayed in the pits/crotch to knock the bacteria down.
