Barely broke 40 here today, snow on the mountain and to the north. A little more layering in the clothes. Have you made time to shoot a few arrows in the heavier hunting clothes? Made sure your draw is still the same and the arrows still shoot true? Not getting any string contact with armguard buttons now that they are out there a little further? The little things that can mean the difference between a hero shot and a miss or worse. Just a friendly reminder. :)

The worst shot I have ever made in my life was because of a cold January day. I got my clothing in the way of the bowstring and instead of shooting a big doe square I shot her through her second cervical vertebrae right behind the ear. Needed a follow up arrow and it was not good sounds the deer was making until that second one. Now I wear a BIG armguard and shoot with my bigger jackets on all the time to stay ready!
I shoot a few arrows before every hunt.I like NO surprises.
I like to drop down in draw weight when it gets real cold. My 60# bow feels like 100# after several hours on stand in cold weather. I also do some test draws in each shooting lane every hour or so (check around first so I don't get busted).

Bought a compression thingy from Cabelas a few years back. Finally got cold enough one week last year that I needed it over my heavy clothes. I thought to myself, " better practice with that thing first ? " Sure glad I did ! Bowstring still contacted my sleeve area and the compression sleeve just made it louder than my regular jacket sleeve and was throwing the arrow a foot to one side ! Got me some wool and extra soft fleece and do not care if I get a little string contact. No noise and does not affect my shot more than a few inches on most shots.

It was cold this morning that's for sure. I warmed up by moving a treestand and then headed to another for a mid-day hunt. While there I took a practice shot out of my stand. Had my face net on but didn't put the bottom elastic aroung my noggin' and it was just hanging there for my string to catch. I'll tell you, when your face is cold and you get whipped by an elastic, it gets your attention.
I don`t wear the bulky clothes you Northern fellas do but in my "winter" garb my safety harness does a great job pulling clothes in . I shoot without an arm gaurd all year and use one just for the sleeves when wearing a jacket. Good reminder David.RC
Wrap rubberbands around bulky sleeves, this keeps the string clear.I ussualy have four or five above arm gaurd and one below.
Was sleeting here this afternoon Greg. I couldn't get out to hunt today so I did some practicing in the backyard.

We spend all year shooting in prep of the hunting season, and much of it in short sleeves.
Suddenly, that refreshing "cool" breeze becomes something more. No more short sleeves.
