I started making endless loop strings last week from the info on this site. I made a 8 strand string for a Bear Montana longbow 45# @ 28" that originally had a 20 strand string on it. :eek: The new string was amazingly quiet and made the shafts act weak. My question is this too thin? Also I am having trouble with double serving. I have tried to wind opposite directions and had no luck. I am serving the long section over the short using .020 diamondback. My problem is after some shooting my nocking area is crushing and getting loose. This is actually a little too tight. I am shooting GT shafts and their nocks. Would .030 Halo single served work better? Thanks for the help.
I shoot 8 strand D97 on a 46# @ 30.5". It was quite a shock when i took the stock dacron rope off it and put the d97 on, you could literally see the speed increase in the arrows. Had to buy some new arrows, but i ain't complaining about that.
I double serve with thin halo, short serving over the top of the long one with reversed spirals so they don't sit into each other and haven't had any movement issues. I use a flemish twist though, so not sure if that makes a difference.
Forgot to mention. 6 strands would be perfectly adequate at that weight. The main reason i use 8 is that it gives me the nock fit i want with the halo i have, 6 strands would be too loose on the nock.
I'll have to try short serving over the long. I had a tough time getting the second serving to "climb" onto the first. When reverse spirals are you serving top to bottom on the first and then bottom to top on second or does it even matter?

Doesn't matter as long as the spirals are going the other way.
