Title: Camo Jacket Suggestions
Post by: DeerHunet on October 10, 2009, 06:28:00 PM
I'm fairly new to hunting so I am still piecing together gear.  Does anyone have any suggestions on a good durable, warm, quiet, and possibly scent lok jacket to get.  I found a Mad Dog Dead Silent Insulated Hunting Jacket w/Scent-Lok for pretty cheap online, is that worth the buy?  I basically want to get a quality jacket as I really really enjoy hunting and can see myself doing this for awhile but I'm aware how many gimmicks are rip offs there are in the market.  All advice welcome.  thanks for the help guys

There are endless different "outfits" you can find for camo. Also, you don't even really need camo. A good plaid pattern in either tans, grays, or green will work as good as any commercial camo. Don't buy into the Scentlok stuff, just be mindful of the wind, and keep your hunting clothes as scent free as possible (don't pump gas with them on,pet the dog, etc.). Wear your hunting clothes for hunting only (at least during the season)I wash all my clothes with baking soda, then leave them hand on the line for 5 plus days.
You can find some great deals on wool plaid clothes at the local Goodwill store. I have even seen camo clothing.
Depending on your financial resources, the sky is the limit as to what you can spend. Just make sure the clothing is comfortable, and you can shoot with them on.
Also, check the classifieds here on Tradgang, some great deals to be had.
Good Luck and welcome to the Trad. hunting community!
