Title: KME on Simmons heads
Post by: Chester Thompson on October 09, 2009, 11:13:00 AM
Now that Simmons broadheads are back, will a KME sharpener work on them? I would think (yes I know) that the flat stone would not work real well, do they have a stone that would work for them. Please if you have experience with both of them let me know.

what would make you think that it wouldn't work? KME is awesome and I haven't see nor heard of it not working on any type of knife or BH.

With the curved blade I would think that you would not be able to keep the stone flat on the head... Sal do you have one? If you ever make it up to Richmond, and you bring it I will provide the heads to test and see if they work together.

Sorry, NO I don't one, but like I said I have seen them work on a lot of BH's and some knives that had a curved blade. As long as you take your time It will come out razor sharp.

Thanks for the link bowspirit, that is what I thought would happen, the corners of the stone would do all of the work on this head, and not I am wondering if that will cause the stones to wear differently, now if we could get Ron to offer what NoCams has been asking for a while now....

Why not make your own holder?  Small piece of wood, cut the top to the right width and drill a hole in it for the rod of your choice.

Not trying to lose business for Ron, he will probably hav something a lot better, but while you boys are waitng for him...

My first step with be getting a KME.

I'll chime in for a bit.... Ron had told me after I made the post on the thread linked above that the stones on the knife sharpener would eventually round over for better contact.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a dedicated stone for those who like the Simmons.

Talk about coincidence... I took an Interceptor to the shop this morning and worked it over with my KME broadhead jig.

I put a half round file in my vice with the round side up. In short order I had that Simmons spooky sharp.
That's how I intend to do them from now on.

Mr. Jerry and I just discussed the sharpening problems that aggravate so many of the simmons fans.  I will be decreasing the edge angle so ya'll won't have to remove sooo much material to get to the sweet spot.  This always ticked me off as well. I'll try to get ya'll a lot closer than the former owner did. God Bless, Dave

I still use Jerry's original "Steelmaster", which sets the angle for you and comes with a half-round file and ceramic rods.  Works like a charm.

Well Guys,
I'm trying... I actually have found some ceramic rods that work pretty well but...they cost more than I'd like them too. Gotta find a file to get them started too. I'll let ya know when I come up with a system that I'm satisfied with.

Dave, Are there any of the new ones available yet for me to experiment with? Thanks,

Ron
