It had been a slow 1st week for me until last evening. About 4:00 I had a red fox come in to about 8 yards. He was entranced with sniffing my boot track. That cost him! I made a perfect shot and pinned him to the ground.

I drug him away from my stand, and got ready again. After a couple close calls on does, I had two bucks come in at about 6:30. I took a shot on the 1st one at about 15 yards. The shot looked a tad low, so I left him until this morning....even though I thought I heard him crash. Went back this morning and found him right where I thought he should be. He made it about 150 yards.

Shot them with my Silvertip, Axis FMJ, and Snuffer SS.
Great job Alan.
Wow! Good night in the woods eh?
I didn't think it would be long. Way to break in the new Silvertip. You leftys rule. See ya soon. Jeff

Great shootin, love that fox! That is an animal I would love to harvest! He looks to have a little grey in him! Congrats, Steve
Nice job Allen- How do you like the axis FMJ's ? What size are you using?
Bill
Way to go Allan, fox dumpling and vension back straps are a great combo!
SWEEET Great job Allen. Blake
Well done x 2
Way to go, Allen
That's one heckuva hunt!
Congrats!
12 ring on a live fox...unbelievable! :notworthy:
It's a good thing you hit him there or I would have made fun of your pink Eichler fletchings. Dang it now I can't. For those of you that don't know Allen is truely deadly with a stickbow on the 3-D range.
Glad to see the Tip get its first blood. I told you they have the MOJO. Glad to see you two bond.
Congrats bro
T.J.
Thanks guys! Feels god o get the season off to a good start.
Maxwell, I'm shooting the FMJ 500's cut to 28" with a 125gr Snufer SS. These are wesome shafts, some of the straightest that I have ever crested. They seem to be pretty tough so far. That fox rolled around on the one while it had him pinned to the dirt. I was sure it would be trashed, but it was not damaged at all.
I haven't found the one that I shot the deer with. Gotta go back tomorow and look for it.
AWESOME!
chris <><
Thanks again TJ. Not quite the same as that giant that you shot, but it's a start.
It's time to try out the ACS now. :bigsmyl:
Nice going Allen! Looks like that Snuffer SS left a hole in that fox! Congrats brother keep on clicking!
Too cool!
Congrats Allen.Another Cool Springs score.More to come I'm sure.
Danny
Sweet :bigsmyl:

Josh
Excellent!
Awesome!!!
Great shooting!
Thanks for sharing.
Nice going Bud !!!!!
Nice buck, but that fox is an outstanding trophy.
Billy
Thanks again guys. We have quite a few foxes in our area. Mostly reds, but an occasional grey shows up. This is my first one with Trad gear...shot one with one of those "other" bows a few years ago.
I was just talking to my Taxidermist about tanning the hide (since I already have one full body mount). It will look sweet on a quiver!!
Good shooting Allen. Once this guy clicks in critters die, heck on the 3d's as well. Hope the season continues as well for ya.
Awesome shooting! Congrats on both animals!
Congrats on the double
Well-done!
Good Shoot Allen!!
Congrats bud!
I did that once in the snow, but the buck was a spike....good memories!
:clapper:
too awesome!
J

I guess what they say about "aim small" is really true. My shot on the fox was right on the money. I rushed the shot a bit on the deer and missed my spot by a couple inches----still good enough though I guess!
Cool and Congratulations.......
Congrats! I'd trade an entire year's worth of deer kills for a red fox like that.
good shooting allen. DB
Great shooting there, bud! Congrats.
Hmmmmm......we can't shoot fox here in KY until furbearer season comes in during November. We can shoot coyotes year 'round, but no foxes 'til Nov. :( Guess ya can in VA though! That's cool.
I don't know if I would make a quiver out of him or not though. His fur isn't prime just yet so his hair might not hold.
Dang you guys are killing me here, we can't start until Oct 17Th probably the latest start in the east.
Alan great shot on both , critters . How many pounds is your bow and what weight arrow ?
Jack
Jack, my bow is 50@27. My arrow/bh are 420 gr total.
Good luck this year everyone!!
VERY nice! Congratulations!!!
:bigsmyl:
A job well done, congrats! Gotta love those Tips!
Buckster,
Fox dumplings? I did see alot of elk dumplings all over Ghost Camp Ridge.
Great A.S.,
Chalk up another successful trad hunt and gather.
Hey Allen.........yep, I was real slow seeing this one, too much time in the tree!
Congrats my friend, glad to see the Tip getting some quality field time!
Keep up the good work!
Tim
Great stuff! Well done!
A few guys have asked about fox season here in Va. I called the Va Game Dept. yesterday to confirm what I already knew.
There is no closed season for foxes (except no Sunday hunting of course), as long as you are a landowner or are hunting private property and have the landowner's permission.
Glad to see all that shooting advice from Scaggs Sr. paid off,you did miss the patented neck shot on both animals though.Good job on recoveries and I wish you continued good shooting/hunting for the remainder of the year hope to see you guys at some shoots next year.
