Just got home from a great hunt in BC. Dean Vanderhorst made a perfect shot on his bull at 5 yards.

Dean used a Tomahawk longbow,Traditional Only carbons and a Woodsman head.
I got my chance on day nine of our 10 day hunt. I had to make a difficult shot at 8 feet to collect this bull.

Very, very nice! Congrats to both you and Dean.
Shoes on .... or off mate?

That is awesome! 8 feet wow.
Congrats to you both!!!
Any more story........
5 yards and 8 feet...gotta love that! Congratulations to the both of you.
Bryan
Amazing job. Congrats to you both!!
Maybe you can give Dean a few lessons on stalking so he can get close like you, and not have to take such "long, risky" shots! What it thrill it must be to be SO close (both of you!) to such a massive wild animal.
I end where I began... AMAZING JOB!
Congratulations on the great looking bulls! Hope we'll see the stories here or in print soon.
Very cool nice going. One of these days, one of these days.
You fellas went on my dream hunt! Awesome looking bulls. Bowhunting is the coolest outdoor activity in the world.
WOW! Congrats guys!
Fine shootin guys! Congrats! I hope you guys drove and have all that good moose meat back home in the freezer.
Nice! I hope the one at 8 feet didn't kick dirt in your eyes!
Give us more of the story...
Congrats Denny!

Wonder how much jerkey you'll get out of that one?
Way to go guys!
Denny is lucky he didn't have hoof tracks on him from that encounter!! And I don't believe for a second that is was 8 foot, it seemed more like 6 or 7 foot at the most from where he was sitting :bigsmyl:
We had a great time, hope to do it again some day. Have a fresh moose roast in the crockpot right now! :archer: :jumper:
Denny- was it hard to pick a spot from that close?? You probably could've just reached out and said "I want to hit him right here"- and poked at him with the broadhead.
Congrats!!!
Congratulations to both Dean and Denny. Well done!
It is so exciting to be that close, way to go guys
Way to go Denny and Dean. I am not sure if I could keep it together at that range. They say "you never know till you try". I guess I will have to try eh? Thats a big critter.
Nice job again, that is awesome.
congrats to both of you. :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Congrats!
great stuff Denny !!!
Ben
very good
Congratulations to both of you! Very Cool!
Nice moose Den! You'll have to track down the picture of my excuse for NOT getting a moose! How's that for talking in rhymes!
D & D nice going. At 8 feet that moose must have blocked out the sun. Classic barn door shot. I bet you still picked a spot and came to full draw...
Good for both of you guys. Were you able to call them? Did you see any other moose? Mike
Thanks everyone!
Mike, they both came to the guides cow calls. I saw a few other bulls and heard more. It was an interesting hunt. I've never hunted them much before.
Steve H., ??? :)
Al, shoes on Mate! Too cold for my tender feet.
Bill, No video. I'm tired of packing a video camera around. I did take 240 pictures on the trip though.
Sounds like it was a great hunt.
I like close shots too, but 5 yrds and 8 feet from a moose... :scared:
You would have had better penetration at a little further distance than 8 feet. Ha! Did Dale and Darryl go with you guys?
Great pics, congrats to the both of you!!!!!
Nice Bulls Denny...congrats on good hunt...
Mike, Darryl couldn't make it, but Dale was there. We had a good time.
Which weighed more? The moose or the log?
:notworthy: :clapper: :clapper:
"I had to make a difficult shot at 8 feet to collect this bull."
:biglaugh: Denny, finally found a critter taller than you! How many freezers did you need? Those are huge animals. Glad I don't have to drag them out ot the highway.
Denny, you need to make up some drama here. Instead of eight feet, it should read "And there I was, the shot looked to be about 96 --- and it took him through the lungs". Best shot I ever made!
Most everyone will think in steps instead of inches.
Congrats!!!! Man that would be awesome to stalk a moose!! Just going through the terrain they live in would be wild and getting my butt kicked by the elements. I'm a glutton for punishment I guess. :bigsmyl: Someday....
Thanks for the pics and story, it keeps that fire going to get there eventually.
D: Look for my "Moose" thread from a few days or so ago...
Well-done, Denny and Dean!
Never would have got that close to me. Call me scared.
Good job
Mike
Wow! :notworthy:

Amazing. Great job.

Raven, LOL, Yes it was just like another shot on the blank bale ( with good string clearance) :)
Good stuff and I am sure the dreams reliving that encounter will be grand.
Glad ya made a good shot and came out intacked!! ;) :bigsmyl:

Congrats to both of you. Sounds like a great hunt. Dino, hope you bring a steak or two to tukey camp next spring. We could even share some with Dale even though he didn't get one.

Couldn't you have gotten them a little closer? Great job. Thanks for sharing.
NICE Denny!

I'd be a little concerned at less than 10yds! Very exciting I am sure.
Snag,
I've seen that video before and believe me when my bull came in he was head on standing at about 12 yards grunting looking right at me but not "seeing me". Two thoughts that went through my head: first being, ain't going to get a shot coming in like that and second was, which way I was going to dive if he decided to keep going straight at me. My guide let out the perfect light cow call at the perfect time that turned him to walk right by me broadside. He took some 3" pine trees off at the ground on the way out too. They have a lot of power and don't want to be between them and the exit. Definately a rush!! dino
Nice Job Denny!!!
Wow! Congrats fellas!!
Denny, did you film the hunt?
That's amazing! I'm still trying for mine. We had a bull at 15 ft this year but no tag ... go figure!!
Nope, there was no film of it Jim. Just still pics is all. dino
240 pictures  that is nearly as good as video!Congrats again
Bill
