I recently wore a pair of Russel Moccasin...Thula Thula PH mocassins on a elk hunt. They are by far the quietest and most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. They are pricey but are custom made for you feet. They were design for hunting Africa big game.
for here i use a pair of leather insulated Converse flat soles are the key to less noise, the more tread there is and the more aggressive the tread pattern the noisier the boot will be no question
I really enjoyed hunting in my 5-finger shoes and may have to get the neoprene ones to extend my season. Still looking for a leather boot to fill the cooler weather gap. I am a bit upset w/my Danner Frontier boots, Gore-tex is gone and this is their third season. No more made in China boots for me.
There was a recent post about Danner Jackals that sounded good.
I like the LL Bean Maine hunting boots since they fit great, are quiet, and keep my feet dry. However, they are not for extreme cold.

Ghillie boots. Ideal for warm, dry, crunchy conditions. They're uninsulated & not waterproof, but they are soft, light-weight, ultra comfortable & very, very quiet. Oh, and they're dirt cheap too (E8ay UK for about $30 ;) )
Wore softsole Red Wing Hunters over 30 years along with Bean gum soles. I would do commercials for either. Beans since the Hunters died.
I'm sure I'll get some chuckles on this but my $19.95 black rubber farm boots with some good gel insoles. Soft rubber, lots more grip than Beans, and very quiet. I can feel sticks with my toes.
thanks everyone you have given me a few ideas.
i thought danners were made in the us not china

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the resole-able boots are still made in the USA and the glued sole boots are made in china.
oh yeah, take a look at Carl Dyers moccasins. I have heard really good things about these moccasins but unfortunately I cannot comment about them as of yet. Would love to order some though.
Those Converse boots look the go. It makes sense.
Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars - wearing a pair of them right now. The are great for warm, dry weather but I don't think I'd care to wear them out on a wet, cool morning.
I bought these last year from Bass Pro for around $20 and I like them a lot.If I'm hunting from the ground, this is what I wear. They aren't insulated but they are waterproof. The soles are flexible soft rubber with very little stiffness so you can feel everything with your feet. I got them a little big so I can wear some wool socks with them and they are pretty comfortable down to 30 degrees F with heavy socks or even colder if your moving. The uppers are rubber coated canvas.

Chuck Taylors for warm dry conditions, not much for ankle support. Really good in the sage and rock mullie country.
Dyers for all but cold and wet conditions, someone allways makes a remark about how slick they are, well yes there are no lugs. You have to walk differently in them paying attention to how and where you place your feet slowing you way down, and whala you see more game.
Tried the Danner's this season not really impressed, the sole isnt soft enough. But not a bad boot overall.
Had some older rockymtn's they were similar to the redheads above I liked them a lot. However they only lasted 2 seasons and began to fall apart. Also not insulated so not for really cold weather. They made a noise when just walking along but once in slow mode very quiet, good ankle support.
I've been thinking of trying out a pair of Tabis (Ninja shoes) for a while.

I'll let you guys know how they work. I used a similar product in Hawaii when I hiked the Na'Pali coast of Kauai and my feet stuck to the ground like goat hooves. I could run with a full pack over terain that was causing all kinds of potentially fatal slipping to happen to the tourists I'd pass by. If you haven't ever hiked Na'Pali picture sheer cliffs and snotty slick dirt.
I've been wearing the Clark's Desert Boot (before the weather turns cold) for the last couple of years. I've also had the same style shoe but the Cabela's brand, and liked it as well. I also like the 80's style high top skateboard shoes like Vans or Vision Street Wear. They are quiet, comfortable, and provide decent ankle support.
i think i will get a pair of converse runners or moccasins and some type of leather boots for the colder hunts thanks
