A little help,
What's the best way to run off this guy if he comes in right at dark if I'm hunting alone. I don't want him to see me when I get down early and when it gets dark I don't want my last step to be on his head either. I was thinking throwing rocks or a water balloon...I wish I was in the stand that day he was looking back at.....Hink

just give him a shout or get a bear license
Rubber blunt in the ribs should do it.
Toss a nice sharp single beveled broadhead his way. Promise, he won't give you anymore problems. Including seeing you climbing down from your stand!

Did I word this wrong? I do have a bear license and I'm not deer hunting, but once he makes me in the stand i don't think he'll be back before dark if at all. If he comes in like in the picture everything is fine, daylight. Don't think this is his first bait pile and he knows whats what....just thought someone might have had the same problem, not being made in the stand...I'll find out tomorrow.....Hink
I had 2 different bears at my barrel almost every evening a couple of weeks ago up in New Brunswick. Guide would come in like he was coming in to bait and the bears would just walk off a short distance. I would QUITELY slip down from my stand and follow the guide out without saying a word until we got to the truck. Bears never knew I was there. I'm not sure what you could do on your own without giving up your position. Don't think scaring him away sounds like a good tactic. Could be for good if you do>

Had the same trouble last week with a bear about that size I've been trying to arrow for last two years. He drove a younger boar off the bait an hour before dark then let the smaller bear back in and circled the bait until dark. I threw a bottle at him in the dark and he moved off a short ways. He didn't go far so I'm sure he saw me get out of the stand.I've done that trick on smaller bears and had it work but as you say your bear more than likely knows the story of the bait sites. The best way I've found is to have someone come in at dark. Good luck he's a great bear.
I've twice got a bear to scoot by throwing something behind it (or maybe by shooting behind it.)
My theory is that they are always worried about getting pounced on by a bigger, badder bear, so they don't question what made the noise and leave the area. Don't know if this will keep them from coming back, though.
Nice bear if you have someone who can pick you up that helps otherwise a sling shot can work if you have something to bounce a shot off

Just got off the phone with my buddy and he's coming up in the morning, I'm glad I didn't go to the stand tonight. We did it like you also the first week of gun season. I'd hunt and he would come run it off. The first day 1/2hr. before dark he came right at me down the trail so I couldn't get a bow shot and stopped right under the stand and decided something is wrong and booked out of there. I might of had a going away shot but chose not to try it. I will let you know how the hunt goes the next three days. Thanks Guy's.......Hink
A lot times when a bear comes in it will look up at me several times before hitting the bait. Even when It's on the bait, it will look at my stand now and then for movement. Like an earlyer post said, you may have to get someone to make noise comming in for you. Even at that, the bear may only move off a few yards and catch you leaving.....RAY
Air horn works well most of the time some young beers though would rather hang around even after blasting the horn at them so pay att to what you are doing in bear contry :D

Is it basically that when it's dark and you want to get down from the stand, that damn bear is still lurking around? Bc that would make me pick my feet up fast too

He is asking, if it gets to dark to shoot before the bear gives him a shot, how dose he leave his stand without giving his stand location to the bear. What I have always done with bear I passed on was lower my bow, climb down and leave as quietly as posible. Still stands my hair up but fun at the same time.
Hink, that is one nice bear you got there!!! I 2nd the idea of a sling shot and maybe shooting something behind him (not to hit him) but just enough noise to get him moving.....if you don't have a partner to help.

You could move your stand to his approach path and might get a shoot he will not be looking for you there.

I wonder if it would work if a second peson comes in just after shooting time ends, making a racket and then they spend a few minutes making a ruckus at the bait site (while you scurry down), but then, he takes away most of the bait, then puts it back mid-afternoon the next day. Make a habit of this just prior to season and acclimate the bears to coming in during the day.
Could that work ?

I brought my extra millenium hang-on treestand so I'll try that if he hangs up tonight. I'm going to check the camera here in a couple of hr. and hope he's still here and the dogs didn't get him.
The bow will be the 59 Kodiak 60"/ 47# with a 30" Sweetland arrow tipped with a Lightning 4 Broadhead.
