Title: Thunder Stick MOAB
Post by: elktalker on October 01, 2009, 11:02:00 PM
Hi Guys I just ordered a MOAB after reading so many good things about them and dont realy know what they look like. Can you post pictures of your thunder sticks? That would be great. I didn't know what woods to order so I asked him to mix dark and light wild grains to mimik camo w/all custom inlays and options. Its going to be a long 7 months.

58" MOAB, 57# @ 28", bocote riser with wenge flare, curly anigre veneers back and belly.

58" MOAB, 56# @ 28", all osage with tamo ash veneers on the back.

Also, just bought myself a Mag off the classifieds, 58", 42# @ 28".  Cocobolo riser and tip overlays, with osage limbs  I draw to 29" and a bit more, smooth as silk, dead in the hand at the shot, and stick the arrow where I'm looking time and time again.  Performance is excellent, they really fling an arrow!

I put in an order with Jim myself for a 60" MOAB, 70# @ 29", osage riser with bocote flare, 4 layer overlay with bocote on the outside layer, curly anigre veneer on the back and osage on the belly with moose tips.  I've got about 6 1/2 months left so I feel your pain... kinda.  ;)

Sorry to hijack this but Last of the Breed what are the woods in the top bow in the picture? I shot my first Thunderstick this week and man does it shoot great!

Wapiti, I am pretty sure that's Tamo Ash...

My MOAB named 'Tines' is made of Tamo Ash....

Then there's my 60# MOAB Red Cedar veneer I named 'Sizzle'.

It got the name from its very 1st hunt, where I killed 3 hogs with it.  I gave it that name because it really brought home the bacon from its maiden voyage....

'With Authority' was the 1st words out of my mouth when I took my 1st shot out of that 70#er with a 680 grain arrow and it knocked over my 3-D Buck Target....

Here's a few pics of her....She also took a hog on her very 1st outing.....There was a white spot on that boar and I kept telling myself not to pick that as a spot if he was broadside.....but to pick it if it was quartering away, and he quartered at 25 yards....BULLS EYE!

Jim and his bows are just tops in my book. I will own another one someday and this time I won't let it go..no matter how badly someone else wants it...

WOW Terry great pics. Bows that make that much meat rank high in my book, plus they are beautiful to look at. My birthday is April...wonder if my wife would like to get me one for my birthday  :)  The first 3 arrows out of my friends Thunderstick III were enough to sell me on the craftmanship and dead-in-your hands accuracy!

Darren, methinks you will like it. Your getting it to heavy for me to take it off your hands if you don't.  That's poor planning.

This is my first MOAB " Meat". It's 60" 57@28". I added the snakeskin to it last winter. The riser is just a basic composite, can't remember what Jim said it was called. He told me its tougher than concrete. This is my go-to hunting bow.

This is my 2nd MOAB " The Mistress" 62" 52# @ 27". This is the Arrow Inlay Bow jim builds for fundraisers. ITs the only way you can get one, and you'll probably end up in the dog house for buyin it, buy its worth it.

This one is  Mag. Its a zebrawood riser with bamboo limbs. I got my son this one when he turned 12. Its 49# @ 26". He's 17 now, and still shoots it. Thats the beauty of a trad bow, ya grow into 'em, not out of 'em. I'll be ordering one next year for my #2 son.

My wife shoots a Thunderstick III, but I do not have any good pics of it. I've shot all of them, and I love my MOAB's. Jim can be pretty creative with the riser woods, if you're just getting your name on the list, you have plenty of time to decide.
