Title: B'day quiver for my friend
Post by: bctgrad on September 30, 2009, 12:03:00 PM
Okay, I really didn't plan on sharing this, but when I got home from work last night and saw my daughter's work, I changed my mind.

My good friend, and pastor, recently decided he wanted to start shooting his bow again.  He said it had been about 40 years since he last shot it.  I told him to dig it out and I'd get it ready to shoot.  He brought me an older Pearson Colt in decent shape and a very good quality osage longbow that his dad made some 50 years ago.  I cleaned them up, fixed a few stress cracks, twisted up a couple of strings and made some wood arrows for him.  He's been shooting occasionally.

Well, his 60th birthday was this week and I wanted to add to his equipment, so last month I started making him a back quiver.  I've made one other quiver for myself 20 years ago and thought I'd model his after mine.  I finished it up over the weekend and plan to give it to him today.

I wanted to get a few pictures of it before I got rid of it so I asked my daughter (who's studying photojournalism in college) if she would take care of this for me.  I got home from work last night and was blown away with the quality of the 95 pictures that she took – I think she's going to have a great career ahead of her.  They looked so great, I had to show a few of them to someone – so here's a sample of her work.

Thanks for all of the nice comments, I'll let my daughter know that you liked her pics.

I gave the quiver to my buddy yesterday and he truly loved it.  His reaction made all of the hours that I put into it well worth it.

I'm trying to talk him into chasing some bunnies with me real soon to get it broken in.
