Title: Aluminum spine for heavier bh
Post by: Ratatat on September 28, 2009, 10:58:00 PM
Bob Lee Hunter FF string, 50@28" drawn to 28", 220 BH + std aluminum insert.  I have some 2018s cut to 28.5".  Yinz think these are too weak, or a good place to start.?  Thanks.

You've got them, you might as well try 'em.  2018's are about a 75 lb spine wt.  They fly great out of my 47 lb curve with 125's (31.5 inches OAL).  They may turn out to be too light, but yours are 2 " shorter than mine, which will stiffen them up.  Even if they prove to be too weak, you've at least got some data to work with at no cost to you but some time.

220 sounds heavy.  If I switch from my 60 to my 57, I go from a 125 to a 145 with the 2018 and mine are 28".  You will probably be closer with something in the 160 to 180 range.  I added a reflective wrap to stiffin a little.

Try them.  That's the only way you will find out.
Doesn't matter what works for someone else.  Personally, I think you will be pretty much in the ball park.
