Title: First deer of the year
Post by: DHR on September 26, 2009, 10:06:00 AM
Well  managed to harvest a nice doe on the day day before the general archery season closed here in washington.  didn't have much time to hunt this month, was working out of town until the 20th and got married on the fifth. What was I thinking getting married during archery season!  Any way I shot ths deer from a weedline between two alfalfa fields as it was getting close to dark.  I felt like the hit may have been a tad far back so i left her 'till the morning. It was far back but nicked one lung and I found her about 100yards from where I shot.  Lots of fat on her for this time of year.

Good luck to all

DH,

When did your archery season open?  How long does the season stay open?

Congrats on the deer..!

Our general archery season opens sept. 1 and closes sept 25.  I have one antlerless tag remaining for a special permit hunt that runs through oct 9.  During the general season in this part of the state you can take any whitetail, or mule deer with 3 points on a side or better.  After sept 16 muley does are also legal.  Season limit is 1 deer unless you draw a special permit for another one.  I shot this deer with a 60" 50# Wapiti takedown.  Thanks guys for the good feedback.

Nice Job.  Looks like good eatin'.

Guess we have to wait for the late season now.  I did not fill my tag this month.
