which do you prefer for stump shooting and/or shooting things on the ground in general?  which is better stopping the arrow when it hits the ground?

Shot judos for years since the hammers were not available. Been shooting hammers now for a few months and love them just as well as the judos. I do not think you can go wrong with either head, they both are great. One thing I do like about the hammers is the 175 weight screw in, matches my broadhead weight and field tip weight. Judos weigh 135 only in a screw in. If you are shooting in deep grass I do think the judos are a little better about not burying themselves. JMHO

Had good luck w/judos although I've lost a few. Now I make my own cheap. Find it in the archives. They work great.

I don't think you will find a better arrow for not skipping into the next county than a judo.  The flat or concave head blunts kill quicker on rabbits though.

I have had the hammer break off much more than judos when stump shooting (glue ons on cedar). The added weight may be the reason; don't know.

Love the hammers! Here's why, This little guy had big rock behind him and when i shot the arrow bounced back out, head still in great condition and ready to go for more except the nock blew out and I couldn't find it!!

I've always really liked the Judo head for stump shooting but not for small game.

The hammers are DEADLY on small game AND a very good stump shooting head.  I use the screw-ins in GrizzlyStiks so I have had no shaft breakage.

For me the hammer is the best all-around small game/stump shooting head there is.

Straitera- I'm interested in those cheap heads. What are they listed under in the archives?

I use 357 maximum brass. I guess I'm cheap. I used to use judos but these seem to be pretty close in the not lose department. I can weight them down with lead shot too if I am trying to match a tip. Gary

I'm cheap too, I use 357mag brass also and I use flu flu feathers so the arrow dosn't go to the next county if I miss that wild can that is laying there.

I agree. You can also resharpen Hex Heads with a 1/2" drill bit. But between the two heads the original poster asked about, I'd take the Judos.

I've lost only one judo in about 20 years of using them. It glanced off a plastic oil can and disappeared into the woods on a rising trajectory. I thought I might have lost one last week, but I finally found it 5 feet off the ground on a branch, after looking underneath it for a while! I've also found them to be very effective on rabbits. The spring wires cut like a blade on tender rabs.
