Title: 5.5 high back fletching question
Post by: T Folts on September 24, 2009, 06:18:00 AM
Are all 5.5" feathers considered highback fletching. If not what brand is ?
I want highbacks to be able to see my arrow better in flight. (colors)

I don't know the answer, but 5.5 high profile is all I use now. Excellent fletching.

I believe that "high back" would refer to an extra high profile fletching or simply put, "higher than average".  5.5", of course, refers to the length of the fletch which could be very low profile or very high profile equaling more square inches of fletching to catch the wind.

I use custom burned 5.5" "high back" in both shield cut and parabolic on all of the arrows that I make.  I like the stability and flight correction they seem to provide. Hunting shots are generally 15 yards or less so drag and speed are a non-issue.

I have what is refered to as a 5.5 X 7/8 shield cut blade for my chopper.  This is a true "High Back" due to the 7/8.  Looks like someone crossed my shield cut feathers with flu-flu's.
