OK I just got a TD longbow 45@28"-62" from a member on here. And I gotta say FANTASTIC bow. Shoots awesome and I have not been able to shoot alot for over a year. I draw 30" so it should be pulling 51# but it does not feel that heavy and feel no stack at all with the bow. I am shooting 5575 goldtips out of it and weigh in at 525gr. I am getting 174fps 7 out of ten shot on the crono. Been awhile since I did this and wanna see if that is a good speed? I am not a speed demon but kinda like to know what others think. I am stacking arrows with it at my hunting range so i am pumped.thanks for the help.<><
That's not good, that's great. You are utilizing that wonderful thing called powerstroke. You are two feet per second off 120 miles per hour. Do you think that will work?
You are stacking arrows, so whatever you do, don't change anything. Please.
You will probably be around 160 fps at 28 inches. If it's a mild R/D, then that is probably average speed.
Is it enough? Certainly!
Sounds good to me! I recently teased a few more fps out of my Bob Lee TD Longbow by going to a much shorter(3") fletching on my arrows. They fly perfectly, and average about 10fps faster than with the 5" I was using before. Not as pretty, though.....
2 feet per second off 120mph????
That would be.......?
A turbulater would make up that 2 feet I think.
Good Grief, that is smoking!!! 45 pounds, 525 grain arrow, that is 11.6 grains per pound of draw weight. YOu are getting 174 fps out of it!!
I think that is incredible! You have .40 slug feet per pound of momentum, and 35.28 pounds of Kentic energy! That is a lot of preformance for a traditional bow at 45 pounds in my opinion.
Is it quiet?
Bob.
It's very good speed. But, Bob B., he's shooting 51 lbs. at his 30" draw, not 45 lbs. :)
That is definitly plenty of speed.
OOPS, thanks for correcting me. Still good speed, I did miss that draw length.
Thanks.
Bob.
Ok thanks guys. I thought is was ok. With my elbows being as bad as they are I am finding that draw weight to be great when I shoot alot. And I trimmed the bowhush down and she is super quiet. And no hand shock at all. Lewis made me a TD longbow that was the best I had shot but hey lewy this one is coming real close LOL.Yeah I kinda like this bow...... ALOT :bigsmyl: .<><
For a selfbow I consider 100 fps plus draw weight to be good speed, so at your draw 151 fps. With a heavy arrow, that's deadly. :D
Psssssssst (hay what kind of bow is it? You can PM me.) :D
Your hurting my feelings!! LOL
My dad always told me
"There's no replacement for displacement"
That certainly holds true in the world of projectiles-mass is for more desireable than excessive speed.
Now, there is a point where too much mass can become detrimental, but this can easily be calculated. find a good muzzle energy calculator- and plug in some figures. It will get you close.
Game can certainly react to/and sometimes successfully dodge projectiles, so set yourself up for the distances you generally hunt.
Naturally, you are gonna want more speed at longer distances, but I'm finding that 30 yds is a moderate to long distance with my shooting ability. So if my arrow is traveling a mere 150 fps- the arrow will get there in under a second.
Keep in mind that mass will also help to maintain your speed.
I am certainly no authority-but if you are looking to bump up speed, try to get it from the bow setup-maybe a string with less strands. If your arrows are tuned well, you could sacrifice fletch length, height, number-but I would not expect much from this-as it only reduces drag, not really weight.
Looks like you have plenty of energy to do the job though, and make sure the business end of that projectile is plenty sharp.

Yeah at 174fps I feel good about it. I been shooting it off and on all day. I just shoot it so good I am GIDDY! I have a 175gr tip on it and it flies like a dart. Lewis sorry bro but the bow you gave me is still a awesome shooter. this bow was made by Jorneyman bows from MI?. I'll post a pic tonight. thanks all for the info.<><
I shot a Journeyman bow last week. It was about 48@28 if I recall. It was not particularly flashy looking, but it was fast. I didn't have any problem shooting it well. I shot the same arrow out of four different TD LB's between 47 and 49. I would say it was the fastest. The price was right from what I was told. I put it on my short list of affordable TD LB's. I have to say thought that my 45@28 lost creek all osage was holding its own with the heavier longer boo core TD LB's.
Im just kidding with ya Frank. Did You get another Bodork bow??
No got this bow from him. But it was a bow swap he was in last year. this one is all Bocote and is getting set on antler limb bolts. I had a set of weathered burrs sitting here for over a year waiting for a bow. One has a sticker on it and this is it.I gotta get a pic. The reiser is kinda like a recurve riser. and fits like a glove.<><

Frank, very nice :)

Looks good. Nicer woods and details than the one I shot. Looks to have the same arrow ridges in the shelf and riser.
Looks like a winner to me!!! Great looking for sure! :wavey:  :goldtooth:
Very Nice!!! Who made it?
Thanks Guys. I am a happy man and owe it all to Bodork. Lewis the is from Mi Journeyman bows I think thats what it is called.<><
Do you know if he has a web site? I was looking for one late week after shooting one. I was told he did have one, but have not found it.
Get in the woods and stick you a deer....so you can put one of your beautiful knives to work. Good luck and shoot straight!
My 2 cents worth - I would trade speed for accuracy and comfort any day....looks like you got both!
