I have had a great hunting season so far. I have been able to hunt with my Dad a lot. Since he is only hunting weekends and I spent the first week huning bison with my friend(the story i told you all the other day) I did not get to hunt elk until this week. I went up late on sunday night. Then set out in the moonlight monday morning. More to come its time for steak.

Too funny and so true.
Bring it Ferret!!!!!
Come on Randy! Some of us had to stop hunting elk on the 6th and only get a chance at spikes and cows. On with the story....
Hey Ferret, looks like you have the right equipment! Steaks should be done, let's hear it!
Randy,
You mean to tell me that there actually are elk in the Bighorns? I thought it was just a PR ploy by Game and Fish.
Let's see some pictures!!!

What KIND of steak????
Don't toy with us. Spill it.
Well after walking about three miles I found a really nice bull (320 or so)I saw two other hunters on him though so on down the trail I went. Off to the north I heard that famed sound of a bull elk looking for a lady. I had to back track a mile or so and gain about a 600 feet in elivation. The bulls really tuned up there was elk bugling all over the place. I stalked in and saw a few bulls. I knew there was a good bull in there though. I kept looking. I finnaly got close and caught a glimps of him as he chased off another bull. I quickly moved in. he came to me thinking that I was another bull. At 15 yards with his head behind a tree he looked the other way and bugled. I drew to my anchor and loosed my arrow. It flew true to its mark. I got a complete pass through. After a short 60 yards he was down.
I know this is blurry I had to take a picture of a picture with my phone. Having a few memory card problems. I will replace with a good one when I can.

Very Very nice !! Your story is like a dream come true. :clapper:
Your arrow has a broken nock, that could have been good for at least a two day delay for C Lam telling. Great elk!
Jaw-droppin' awesome! Well-done!
A beautiful trophy.
From someone who has never even heard a bull bugle, you can't imagine the awe.
God bless and congrats on a super looking elk!
Beautiful animal mate.
Thank you!!! :wavey:
Well done...congrats buddy!
Congrats nice bull.
Randy, way to go what a great looking bull..
Anyone else counting the miles here, I see at least 4 of them in the mountains. Maybe it is my age but two wore me out in the ozarks last weekend :biglaugh:
Awesome!!! Can't wait to see more pics!!!
Thanks for taking this old guy along on your hunt, my elk hunting days are long past. 3 hunts and I only saw one bull as nice as yours! Congrats Randy.

Super bull Randy. Nice job! Ben
Congrats, Randy, on a super bull.
Most Excellent Randy!
Looks like your larder is full for the winter.
Chris Rice
NICE! :)
Nicely done, congrats!
Ray there was a lot of miles that day. I had to mostly jog to stay aead of them enough they would not wind wind me as they traveled up to bed. The long miles came after the shot in the heavy pack trips to get him packed out. I was by myself in camp for a few days. It was the first time that I had done that alone. My GPS said that I had walked 20.4 miles when I got the last pack into camp right at dark.
That is a stud! Congrats!
:bigsmyl:
Good Job Randy ! I'm impressed !!
Dude, That's 2 in 2 years!!!!!!!!!You need to go but a lottery ticket......Seriously Congratulations! :clapper:
Handsome bull! Congratulations :clapper:
A little premature in the stories climax though. You peaked in two hours and six minutes...but who's counting. :biglaugh:
I replaced the blurry pictures with good ones.
Thanks everyone.
Great job Randy. Nice bull and story. Your my hero. LOL
Congrats, nice bull!
Ferret, right on brother
Ok here are the details before I go back into camp. The arrow hit about 8 inches beind the shoulder and exited about two inches behind the off shoulder. In the pictures it looks like it hit alot farther back than that. This is because of the way that he was laying. Evidence showed that the arrow went through the liver and the off side lung.(lesson learned: it should have been a little farther forward he was not quartering that much)
I was shooting my Pronghorn Series V Foam Core longbow 62" 57@28.
Easton Axis Nano 400 29 3/4" with a 100gr brass insert and a 125 grain magnus stinger broadhead.
AWSOME - DOUBLE AWSOME.

Great bull and a great hunt,, Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
In respect to your continued success,, I have to believe it's in the hat..
Today is the sadest say of the year. We took out elk camp and returned to civiization. We did harvest one more bull though. Along with that were several great hunts spent with my Dad. I did not do much deer hunting as him and I spent a lot of time trying to get him a good bull. We had many close calls though and I got to experiance some fun things that I had never seen before. I have alot more pictures to post and will as soon as I can.
Joe I did not do much calling the day that I took my bull. If the elk are talking I have found that it is better to let them as the know the language better than I do ha ha.
Mike you and I should talk about your bows. I have been admiring.
Thank you for all of the congrats everyone. It is nice to have a place that one can go to tell his stories with people that know the heart that goes into traditional archery.
Sky the St Judes Knife and hatchet were involved. I am sorry that I did not get any pictures of that for you. I was by myself and my cammera battery died. Be assured they are great tools though.
Beautiful animal! Congrats!
