Title: WARNING - attempted SCAM
Post by: Follower on September 21, 2009, 07:24:00 PM
Heads up - I had a buyer contact me about some items I had listed on another bowhunting site's classifieds.  The man indicated he wanted to buy the items.  Then he sent an email indicating he had sent payment for a lot more than I was asking with a request to "help him out".  The instructions were to deposit all the payment into my bank account and then wire the balance of the money to his daughter who was in urgent need of the funds.  He gives you a little extra for your trouble to make it attractive to you.

This is likely a scam.  You deposit and then wire the money.  In the meantime, the bank determines the money order, check, etc is fraudulent and they debit your account for the entire amount and BAM - you're screwed.

Don't fall for this one!

Don't care who it is, and I'm sure the mods will take of it.  Until then, lets keep this at the top for just a little while.

I got them before I had ever heard of craigslist. It's not about where you are doing business. These guys will either find you somewhere or at random. They operate on that basic human emotion: greed.

BTW: read the original post guys. It was not on Tradgang, but another bow site. Not that it couldn't happen here, but so far as I know, it hasn't.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is. That's the rule.

I had the same thing done to me last year...same scenario.  Guys sent me a check for like $1000 and said mail the rest of the money and the bow to his father b/c it was a birthday gift.  I gave the check o the bank and they determined it was a fraud...still cost me $30 but I'll take it.

I wish i had all the info but i lost it when I moved  :(

Hello,

Thanks for your mail, and also I am in receipt of your details, and will make sure the payment is mailed out to you immediately. But first, I will need to inform you that the payment will be in extra fees, which is meant for shipping and insurance, and that the fees will wired to the shipper, after you might have deducted your asking price of $900.

Furthermore, immediately the money is wired to the shipper, you will be contacted immediately on how and when the item will be picked at your location.

So, If OK with the arrangement, do kindly get back to me immediately, so that the payment can be mailed out to you.

Thanks

I wonder how long I can play him.
