Post by: cavscout on September 21, 2009, 07:01:00 PM
I am looking at unit 14 in colorado for next years archery elk season. From what i can figure out from the state website this is over the counter unit for archery elk and bear for non residents. ANY info on this unit would be appreciated. I have looked at everything on the state website but it is a little confusing. I hope to spend 2 weeks hunting in colorado next year and want to get as much info as possible befor ordering my maps .THANKS

What Kind Of info are you looking for? 14 is steamboat / zirkles.  Lots of hunting pressure, Lots of elk however, Buff Pass was pretty good.  It is Over the counter, Which is one of the reasons it gets lots of hunting pressure.

Thanks for answering Matty, I saw unit 14 was on the suggested hunting list on the state website but it didnt give details of hunting pressure. I plan on coming out next year and I am trying to find a good over the counter unit. I plan to stay the first 2 weeks of archery elk and hope to get a bear tag also. Unit 14 looks like it has some areas that would be great if you hike back in off the roads. I cant find Buff Pass on my map, what is it close to? I was looking at upper soda creek between horsethief pass and soda mtn. It would be great to see a bear also since that is not an option here in ohio, Thanks for any help and your knowledge of the area will really help me alot.
