Caught up on a ton of yard work...even managed to use limbs from the yard to construct a ground blind. Over all, it was a good day. Some yardwork, a few shots. Some more yard work, a few more shots.
I have been having a very hard time deciding which bow to use this year. First time I have ever had that problem. Its been a toss up between my Harold Couch TD LB, my Griffin, or my Kerner.
The choice got a little easier this afternoon. I picked up the Kerner(I was intent on choosing which bow shot best for me today) and noticed the upper limb is just starting to delam. Im so glad I didnt shoot it!! I carefully unstrung it, and hung it up.
I dont know how or why it happened. I always use a stringer. New string, hasnt even been shot much as I was waiting for the string to finish stretching...had the brace at 6.5".
So now I guess Im shopping for someone to fix it.
Im so glad I have more than one bow...even still, I feel like I lost my buddy or something.
Sorry about that and I know how you feel. In the last month I lost two bows maybe for good. A '65 Bear Kodiak decided to delaminate and a '72 Bear Kodiak Hunter delaminated slightly after a split knock and arrow and accompaning dry fire. I wasn't planning to use either bow this year to hunt with but it was dissapointing to say the least.
I hear ya! I just had a limb delaminate on a recurve of mine as well. Sometimes they just decide to go... Oh well. :banghead: todd
Why don't you just send it back to Jeff. He is a great guy and would probably be more than happy to help you get it fixed. I have a Kerner myself and it is definitely a great bow. Below is Jeff's info if you decide it is something you might want too do. Sorry to hear about your bow. :(

O.M.G. Jammie! Just be happy ya got a back-up and that this happened today and not three weeks from now... Good idea to send her to Jeff. I bet he can make things right for you.
See Ya Soon Buddy
... mike ...
Wannabe, thanks. Sent an email.
Its ok Mikey, like I said, guess it narrows down my dilemma...You are right though. I woulda been really ill if that happened up in the tree!
Im just glad I noticed it before shooting it. Especially since my son is usually just feet behind me watching in awe.
I guess I get serious with the other two bows now.
I bet that Couch bow is nice. I have seen some pics of his work. Go get it bloody!
B.
I know how you feel jamie. this is what happened to me in july:

had to go and get another bow..and ended up with this last month:
taken her out hunting one morning so far. can't wait to get back out there...
Not nearly that bad here hickstick..this looks like the lams in the limb core are separating...I will try to get a picture.
Im trying to figure out what happened, and if I did anything to cause this. A few months ago, I had an issue with a carbon arrow that "clicked" on release. Of course this bow has been shot hundreds of times since then, including most of the Muzzy rounds.
Brant, the Couch bow is rather nice. I shoot it way better than anything else I own. Dead quiet too....I have had probably 15-20 people comment on how quiet it is.
But you have a Griffin for a backup bow! :bigsmyl:
Sad for ya, Ishi! But that's why it's a good idea to be a bowaholic!
Know the feeling...if anything like that happened to my Groves or old Browning Cobra my shop would have the feeling of a funeral home.
:scared: :saywhat:
I think I have decided to have it fixed. I cant bear letting this bow go, and I dont think the damage is beyond the point of fixable.
Any idea who I should contact? I have emailed the bow company(the new owners) and have yet to get a response.
Brian, I dont have a back up bow per se. I have(still I hope anyway) three really nice bows. Two of which my wife made me buy. :goldtooth:
Jamie, is that the one I skinned? Is it delaminating in the same place it got damaged in the fall? That REALLY sucks. :(
Yeah Brent, the one you skinned. It is more of a crack in between limb core lams. It is on the opposite side of the bow from where the finish chipped.

I know it doesnt look like much, but that crack makes this bow useless as a hunting bow. Any suggestions about getting it fixed or fixing it? Is it even worth the effort?
TTT
The bow is a wall hanger now Jamie. Not worth the risk of shooting it with a "repair".
Jamie....use the telephone. Emails get lost, computers break, IPs change email ports and folks don't change the settings on their computers, people get too busy to check mail boxes.
Telephones annoy people into answering them. :D
Glad nobody got hurt.
Killdeer
Jamie, hang it up, remember the good times you had with it, grab the Griffon and go.
Boy Jamie, That torques me almost as much as it does you. I had a lot of time into that bow, even if I only shot 3 arrows out of it. :(
If you want another bow skinned, talk to me after the season. We'll see what we can do.
Jamie, I would definilty hang that one up, not worth the risk. You have got a couple of other fine bows don't take the chance. ED
Alright guys(and girl), I am retiring it. It has been hung up, unstrung since I found the crack.
Im gonna be shooting in a bit with the griff.
Brent, I got a lot of kudos on the skins at the Muzzy, FWIW.
Thanks everyone. Just seems wrong to hang up a bow ya didnt even get to draw blood with...
If not drawing blood had something to do with my bows I'd be in trouble...lol!!!!! Enjoy your season.....
hey that happened to me ... here are my results. Seems like we could start a mourning group here...

Man I hope that wasn't during a shot or at full draw!
Full Draw while practicing in the yard. I didnt get it too bad. Just a welt on my bow arm. But other than that no worse for the wear.
Man, its a shame that such nice bows go like that.
Glad you werent hurt too much.
Still miss my bow. :(
jamie you could talk to rich lopez he goes by droptine 59 here on trad.gang he is a real good bow finisher-repairer you may be able to get your baby fixed at a good price .look him up an talk to him. it cant hurt.
Forget it. I took my '65 Kodiak with both limbs delaminated over to him last week and he took one look at it and gave me instructions on how to make a lamp out of it.
sorry to here that- hope your lamp turns out nice.
Jamie,
I'm sorry you didn't get to "blood" your bow before it probably ends up retired, but... on the positive side... at least it didn't end up being YOUR blood to complete that task!
Sorry it broke. Maybe you should take it as divine permission to buy a new bow... :saywhat:
