I've got work to do on the West Texas rances in October so I'm running a very limited hunting special. Lots of javelina and hogs!!!!! $100 per day for your state limit of javelina and all the hogs you can shoot. Have a look- Limited Special (http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=48&t=000950) CK
TTT
Dang that's a great offer. I wish we had time to take ya up on it.
Mike
email sent... sounds like this might be the best chance to realize a trad hunt that I'm likely to get...
Heck of a deal here guys with great chance of success on both species.
If I was a little more fit, I'd hobble my lame hiney down there... may do it anyway.
Hey, Charlie... sounds like the two of us might be able to prop each other up!
I'm gonna hit up Randy and see if he would be willing to do the drive with me weve been talking about doing a hog hunt together..Seems like a good Idea..
I would do a couple days if I can get someone else to share the drive. Will let u know soon Curtis.
Has anybody gotten in touch with Little Feather? I sent an email for more info but haven't had a response.
bizy man give a few days... He has to feed the hogs.
I'm sorry fella's. I've been really busy this year with trying to work and remodel my old farm house. It also rained all day yesterday and my computer doesn't work on rainy days. All email have now been returned. I thank you all for your interest and patience.
Mike, Make a few days and come on. This place is loaded with javelina. They had a really good year rearing young. Looks like all the baby javelina made it.
Charlie, I'll sit you on Herbs bucket and you can wear out a "MaMa javelina". LOL! :bigsmyl:
Barry, I'll be expecting you. Bring your hunting buddies. Can't wait! I'm ready to get back to hunting!
Sal, Hope the work thing is going well for you in Warton. CK
Wish I could shake loose for this one. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Greatest Gal in the World!
In talking about this opportunity on my Hill list last night, I got another invite... to come to Texas in January and roust hogs on a members place. Both opportunities are like dreams for me, and I was weighing them when the GGW (see above) said, "Go to both!" I'll be calling tonight to make arrangements and commit, so I'll be there. I need to work my bow weight up (as much as I'm able) and get my walking going again. I'm hyped... I want to send one of those posts that starts out "First Trad Kill"!
Come-on Dick! You've got a great opportunity to run that thread. Can't wait to help you drag a hog. CK
OK guys, I've updated this hunts info on the Sponsor Classifieds. The info is now posted for sending your deposits, shipping info, etc...
Looks like we have two confirmations, 6 strong maybe's, and a possible special story telling guest named after a young farm animal. :saywhat: :bigsmyl:
I'm kind getting excited about this one. Lets go hunting! CK
2 more confirmations.
Just wanted to add that I'll allow kids to hunt free with an adult. That should make an already sweet deal even sweeter. CK
Up for Zack. I just updated the sponsor classifieds ad to include a weather forcast and travel map.
Hunters, please ask your travel and hunt questions here. I'm getting the same questions in emails. I'm trying to cover all the questions on the sponsor classifieds-
http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=48;t=000950l
Let's run this through again !
BOOK EM..........Curtis
Wow...kids can hunt free with adults ? Does that go for my son Kevin, he's 39 now though, does that make a difference?
Yea, I have the perfect bow and arrows for him. :bigsmyl:
Generally "kids" mean 12 and under. I'll make some exceptions as long as they hunt along side of Dad(or Mom) but 39 years old might be fudging it a little. :biglaugh:
You can't tell by this thread but the roster is looking good. We've got numerous deposits on the way. CK
My deposit will go in the mail today. I'm busy practicing like mad and have started a new bow for the hunt, trying to get my weight up just a few pounds. I've already started a web page titled "The Old Phartt, The Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf" to tell the story as it unfolds:
http://oldpharttsarchery.com/shooting-adventures/bigbadwolf/bigbadwolf.html
I hit Cabella's yesterday for one of those new self inflating sleeping mats... could't see bringing my usual four poster double bed 8^)
If it's been covered, I guess I missed it,but what's the deal on food/cooking?
Is anyone else flying into Midland? Any chance of coordinating arrival and saving on car rental?
All I can think of at the moment... Heck, it's not even 7 yet and I haven't had my coffee!
Don't kill'em all boys. Save some for my January hunt.
I wish I would have know about this a month ago. I would have planned for it myself.
Good luck too all.
Paul
My deposit goes out ASAP. This will be my first time hunting Javis and my first tradgang outing. Also my son (10) will be with me looking to kill a rabbit or two.
Can we have open fire Curtis? I planned on bringing my single burner stove. I am pretty fired up! Hunter and I have been shooting everynight. Even camped in the backyard with my 5 yr old twins. You know getting in the mood.
Kirk
Well we aren't going to be able to swing it. Gotta save for our deposit on the 2010 moose hunt with John.
You guys will have a ball.
Mike
Kirk, Thats funny! :D
I hear ya Mike. I'd choose moose too! You guys know your always welcome. Jason makes a mean breakfast.
Littlefeather,
is there room left on this hunt?
Dick in Seattle, I'm on the other side of the mountains in carlton WA. If I go I'd be flying into midland and would love to split car rental with you.
Yes-sir, I have room. I'm cutting off booking at 10 hunters. That should give everyone about 1500 acres each if we stay on the south side of the ranch. I'm stoked! I'm so ready to get away from my remodel project and shoot some critters that I can't sit still. We still have about 3 or 4 spots left to hunt. Thanks to you all for your interest. CK
Well, Dan Russell (DHR) and I have hooked up and will be able to fly down together and share a car from Midland. Good deal!
Got Big Bad Wolf into the oven this afternoon... Tomorrow morning we'll see what I have. I ran into a couple of problems figuring the poundage I'd come out at. Turned out not to have the glass I thought I had and had to mix up two thicknesses and grind one down to the width i wanted. First I was worried I'd come out light, now I'm worried I'll come out heavy. Ah, the life of an amateur bowyer 8^)
Once I get the bow shaped up, I'm going to build a pig! I got the foam and burlap yesterday and am looking forward to a 3D foam pig I can practice with broadheads on.
This sounds like a alot of fun. If there is any openings left I'd sure like to come.
bill
Load the wagon and head east. I'd be glad to have you! This is shaping up to be a great get-together.
I generally don't start the hunting season this early in the year. The ranch owner called a couple of weeks ago and said "we have got to do something about this pig problem". I quote-"We have got a problem". So, it looked like a great opportunity to start working on the camp and setting up some blinds around the water holes and hot spots.
The old rancher feeds cattle cubes throughout the ranch daily. Everywhere he feeds he blows an ambulance siren on his truck. This calls the cattle but most important, it calls the hogs and javelina. The hogs and javelina eat the remnants of what the cattle can't pick up. I've got some ideas of where guys should start hunting. :goldtooth: CK
Check sent. So is this going to be a spot stalk affair or more blind hunting? Need a safeish place to take Hunter to. He had his leg broke by a cow when he was 5 so I have to keep this as tame as I can until he regains confidence. Do we need to bring ground blinds? How about the cooking set up? What do I need other than chow, my camp stove?
Kirk
booked flight and deposit is in the mail.
LETS HUNT!!
lookin' forward to meeting you guys
-Dan
My check is in the mail. I'll be driving over from Phoenix. Always wanted to do one of these hunts and really looking forward to it..
bill
Check's gone from here, plane and car reservations made. Work is going good on Big Bad Wolf... not without problems, but all solved as I go. Have it in semi-rough state now, tillered to 42@25 and 64". I wanted 66" but it came in a hair light. It'll shed 3 to 4 in finishing and should come in right on the 38 that wanted. It seems very smooth and I don't think I'll have any problem with that weight for a hunting bow. Should have it finished and shooting by Saturday.
Curtis,
Thanks for the info today - deposit check is on the way! I'm really looking forward to this.
Bwana, if you drive I'm in El Paso and planning on heading out Thursday morning. If you want to meet me in EP we can car-pool from here.
Sent you an email Doug. It might just work out.
bill
We still have a couple of openings. CK
AH...Yer kiddin CK (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d171/IronBull_/Smileys/excuseme.gif)
This ain't sold out????
I'm having way too much fun getting ready for this adventure, but I have some questions and I don't want to bother Curtis with all of them, so I'm hoping that some of you guys who are experienced at this sort of hunting trip can help me.
How many of you take two bows? It seems a good idea to me and is what I'm planning, but I got to wondering if this is the norm or if most people just take "Old Faithful"...
I'm hating the idea of having to ship my bow(s) ahead 10 day early, because then I won't have them to practice with. On the other hand, I do have a plane change and would sure feel stupid if I ended up in Texas with no bow! Just wondering how many of you ship your bow vs. taking it on a plane with you?
I'm also wondering about quivers. Most folks use a back quiver, which, a. is very hard for me because of my arms and b. I don't have one of. I normally use a hip quiver on a belt and I'm used to it, but is it practical for hunting? I don't see many pictures of hunters with one.
I understand that town is about 13 miles away. Is this on decent road or really rough cross country? In other words, is it practical to go back to town if you discover you don't have something you need and/or feel a desperate need for a Mexican restaurant?
Those will do for now... gotta go make a couple of bow strings. Both Big Bad Wolves will get their final coat of finish tonight! Had them out today between coats getting some broadhead practice in on the new pig... Fun!

From Crane, Texas... For the final 13 mile trip you'll need to contact me via email- cacjck@yahoo.com
Now just to help out on a question that might come up. If someone doesn't have a Wifi computer/blackberry/cell w/internet. Is there a place in Crane where someone can email you, Like a library?
I'll have my iPhone as long as we have a signal I can email. it its a yahoo or hotmail you can use it.
I use a bow quiver. if you feel good with a hip than go for it. I only take one bow. One day I'll regret it I am sure but not so far. Fingers crossed.
Kirk
Oh, when I went to Michigan last year I shipped my bow. I missed it but it was there and safe. I got in the shooting groove pretty fast when I got up there.
Kirk
I was there last year and I had my Blackberry with AT&T service which worked. It's a normal Texas highway to Crane but not much in town.
Dick,
I make one just like the "Sidestalker" from Three Rivers. It doesn't require you to reach up and back, so if you have limitations on range of motion w/your arms it's no problem. I'll bring one for you to use/try if you like.
hey dick i'm wondering about putting my bow in the mail as well (i am only bringing one by the way, i think) I guess I'm leaning this way because on a short hunt i'd hate to miss a day. It'd sure be convenient to bring it in the luggage though. Anybody have ideas about the weather in crane this time of year? This week looks warm and maybe some rain. I'm also wondering if i can get by with just a tarp rather than a tent. Also stoves, I'm not worried aout cooking food at night, but I gotta have coffee in the morning, does anyone know if there will be one to use, or should i bring one.
lookin forward to it.
Dan
Guys, I have all the little details covered. You know, stove, coffee pot, refrigerator, shower, toilet, microwave, building to gather in, etc.....
I've now gotten all your deposits that I was expecting. Glad to have you guys aboard! We still have a few spots we could fill if anyone else wishes to come.
Shipping gear? This is totally a personal choice. I see about one guy in twenty that ends up at the ganch without any gear, bow, or clothes because of the Airlines reliability on delivering your luggage to the same place you go. I just suggest it because I never know who the 20th guy in line for nondelivery will be. Again, your choice.
Town is 13 miles. You can get all your lunch meats, breakfast food, beer, water, etc there. There are even restaurants there. No Wal Mart in Crane. You can get everything else there. Generally we eat a big meal before going out on the evening hunt. It cuts down on the late night cooking and dishes.
Cell phone reception is very limited on the new ranch. Almost non-existant! You can always drive a few miles and get it.
Quivers? Carry one that the arrows don't rattle in. Other than that we'll most likely be stand hunting. Most of the stands we build are pit blinds. You will need a three legged stool.
Tents? I'd advise a tent over a tarp. The wind always blows in west Texas. You'll arrive back to your tarp to find everything covered in sand.
Hope that helps. :D CK
Thanks for the info curtis.
dr
There has suddenly been lots of rain across south and southwest Texas. I'd expect bugs and pack accordingly. I use a Thermocell. You cannot fly with a thermocell so you'd have to ship it ahead of time. Just thinking of the little details.
Please bring your remaining balance due on this hunt in cash. If you have questions about your balance please email me. Thanks! CK
I talked with the rancher on this ranch yesterday. The report is awesome for hogs and javelina!!! I'm fired up! Got my Snuffers ready for the javi's and my Sasquatch's ready for everything else. I leave in 8 days so all your gear needs to be here by next Friday. Remember to pack some arrows for shooting all the jack rabbits! :readit: Thanks! CK

But not ALL the jacks, guys...leave us some for January!
Yes please! Leave some for us.
Can't wait till Jan.!
CK & everyone else doing this hunt... Be safe and have Fun. Take lots of pix and post some stories.
CK,
Any info on what the average shot distance is?
Curtis told me 8 to 15 yards. That's what I'm practicing at.
I generally won't shoot javi's unless they are 5-7 yards. They have a small kill zone and I'm not the best shot. Javi's don't bleed much even on a good hit. You want to guarantee yourself a solid vidal shot.
I shoot most hogs at around 10 yards myself. When using any kind of baits or scents with hogs I find that there is no reason to shoot long yardages or be impatient. I generally just wait till the target is within my "can't miss" distance. I also find that I learn a lot by simply sitting and watching the hogs as long as possible and still get the shot. CK
Sounds good, Curtis... I got my packages off FedEx air this morning, so they should be there by Thursday. I sure messed up my shipping opportunities... let the time get away from me and it cost!. Now i know.
Going to a 3D this weekend and plan on telling everyone to just ignore the fact that I'll be taking all shots from close. Daniel and I are flying out Tuesday... see you when we get there.
Take lots of Pics Dick
you'l have a blast
CK how you keeping man? Sounds like you'v been busy
BUSY! Just not as well traveled as you Andy. When are you and Dad coming down to see me? I'd love to do a few days with you guys! CK
Gettin' closer guys. 7 days and a wake up!!!!
Kirk
Good luck you guys. Take plenty of Pix. I would love to go down there some day.
ChuckC
I just bought a new camera for the trip, so the pic's will be coming.
can't wait
Dick, Your Fed-x delivery arrived yesterday. It's in the trailer already. CK
likewise... I already have a web page going on all my prep... I'm kind of a fanatic about documenting all my little adventures and this one will be no different.
Been watching the weather down in Crane. They've been going back and forth about whether there will be showers or not. Last night they were saying "yes", this morning they're saying sunny. Let's hope they stick with that.
Awwww Dick, didn't you know that the Weather Forcasters have to learn to change their mind every five minutes while they are still in forcasting school. That way they can always say they were right at some time during the day.
Seriously, the weather can change drastically very quickly in West Texas. As the saying goes "wait five minutes or drive five miles and the weather will change". We are in that time of year when serious weather is always a possibility. I carry a disposable Wal Mart poncho in my pack. If it rains I can put it over me and my gear till the weather clears. I'll be out of touch with TV and most radio once on the ranch so it would be beneficial for us all if you'd check the 7 day forcast on the day you depart. I'll arrive on the ranch Saturday evening. I should have everyone a scouted place to start wacking critters by the time you all get there. CK
Freakin awsome! Rain or not it'll be fun. Any guitar players in the group? Thinking about bringing my Martin for a little after hours fun.
Kirk
I've got a couple of musician buddies that hang around camp from time to time but none this trip. I'm good with some geetar music. I'll even sang a few hymn's on Sunday mornin. :readit: :bigsmyl:

Dan Russell-Your gear arrived and is now loaded for an early AM departure to West Texas. CK
That's great news curtis. Kirk i'll think up some requests for you and your guitar.
see you all down there.

just track checked my two pkgs and see that they have been delivered and signed for by that C. Keller guy, so I guess I can sleep tonight 8^)
kind of a bummer day here... I was supposed to go off for a 3D for the weekend, but our winter weather hit with a vengeance... absolutely miserable out there. I'm not even going out in the back yard to practice. I don't figure getting wet, chilled, sick is a smart move at this point. Spent the morning sewing a new sleeping bag liner on a 1926 Singer industrial treadle i picked up last month and finally got restored to my satisfaction. That and a pipe and coffee look like the high points of my day.
remember guys, lots of pictures. We'll be down there in april. Good luck and shoot stright...
Yea Dick, I signed for that package a few days ago. I'm pretty sure I posted it on this thread a few days ago.
I'm packed so full that the truck bumper's dragging the ground. I've only got about another 1000 pounds of gear to put on top and I'll be ready to pull out in the morning. :readit: :knothead:

Here's a short tape from a javelina Curtis guided me to. His lyrical genius shines through.
You'll find he can finish any song that starts, "there once was a man from Nantucket".

Man that sounds like me. I know THAT song.
Charlie, hows javi taste?
Kirk
Like chicken! :D
It's great stuff. Is very much like pork even though a Javi isn't a pig.
Ask anyone who'd had Curtis' Javi salad and you'll hear rave reviews.

Thanks Charlie. I've heard mixed reviews.
Kirk
Too funny! I'm glad there was no cameras rolling the day I had that javelina boar back me into the cactus before I ran one through his brain pan. I was singing from the cactus needles more than the impending attack. :readit: Yea right!!
OK Fella's, I'm loaded and pulling out. I'll check cell phone messages daily. I'll return calls when I have service. Travel safe! See you guys in camp in a few days. I'll be the guy skinning a big boar at the gambrel. :goldtooth: CK
This is just too good, so I sent it in a separate thread so everyone could enjoy, but I knew it would be especially amusing to those of you who have followed along on this thread, so I'm putting it here, too...
I'm deep in practice and preparations to take off for this hunt Tues. morning. Of course, I had to ship the bow I made to use, so I'm practicing with whatever bows I have on hand that are the closest to it in the way they draw. Yesterday I tried my 3 piece Pronghorn and was reminded what a great, smooth bow it is. I've been a little nervous about going down to Texas and having only one bow, so I started thinking about taking the Pronghorn. (I decided against because I really want to do this with a bow I made.)
Anyhow, my wife has been very supportive of this effort. Even though she's not keen on hunting, the idea of my going after pigs... i.e. pests... is OK with her, but she's made it clear that she's not keen on the idea of eating wild game meat. Also, she truly doesn't follow along closely on all I say when I babble on about archery.
Last night I'm sitting there halfway talking to her and halfway thinking out loud and I said, "You know, I could just pack that Pronghorn in my luggage." She blew up! "Are you out of your mind!? You can't hide raw meat in airport luggage! I thought you were hunting pigs, not antelope! They're cute and aren't hurting anything..." Well, you get the picture...
8^)
Curtis/Guys,
I forgot to call to get the final directions from Crane to the ranch for this hunt! Could one of you PM me at douganddawn@rocketmail.com or douglas.michell@us.army.mil with the directions? I sent an email and tried calling Curtis today, but didn't get through! Any help is most appreciated! Thanks.
CK is out there now so He'll be hard to get. I would say call every chance you can.
Thanks Sal - that's my plan; was just hoping someone who hasn't left yet could square me away!
Try the other number listed on his website.
Its his home number I think.
I have been tring to get him also with no luck. I sent him an email several days ago but never got a reply.
I have to back out of the hunt as my wife is helping a coworker and I have to stay home and watch the kids.
Trying to see what his policy is about the deposit. Anybody know?
Kirk
huntwithastick, the ranch is west of Crane on 329 about 5-8 miles. I have not hunted this new ranch so don't know the exact ranch lane you turn on, but it is likely to be marked with survey tape. It will be on the left (south) side of the road. If you get to Crane and still have not heard from CK, leave a message on his cell and he will find you. Or take a drive west on 329 and see if you spot the camp entrance.
kirk, most hunt deposits are non refundable, but you may well be able to apply it to another hunt date. There are lots of hunts this fall and winter and hunting with Curtis is too good to miss. I bet he'll work with you if he can.
Huntwithastick, I have an email from Curtis with the directions. I will forward it to your email. Like Shaun said, it is on 329, Curtis said 13 miles on the left. Said to look for bright silver gate fences and pens. My stuff has been ready to go since Sat. just waitng to be thrown into my truck. Really looking forward to this trip. Should be a lot of fun....bill
If somehow things change I'll be there. Maybe fri-sun. She has to work Thursday for sure.
Kirk
Sure hope you can make it, Kirk. It's 4 am here and Dan and I are about to get ourselves washed and shaved (well, me anyway on that last part) and off to the airport in a few minutes... Just got up and haven't even turned the lights on yet... giving our chauffeur a few last minutes to sleep... Then off to Piggieville, yeehaw!
Oh, yeah... I successfully negotiated potential trophy status... I told Ann that if I was successful in getting a really big Texas hog, I'd have it fully taxidermied and stand it in the living room in front of the fire place, with a Texas saddle on it so I could sit on it and watch TV. From there it was fairly easy to negotiate down to the European skull mount on a plaque in the bowroom that I wanted....
Dick, you are in for a treat! I'm lovin following along on your preparations and can't wait to hear the stories when you get back. Go get one!
I love javi meat, but the best testimonial is that my wife loves it too. She's pretty fussy about what she eats, but javi is one of her favorites.
The key is like preparing most game meat - get every bit of fat off that you can. I bone mine and then spend more time than normal on javi to make sure it is perfectly clean. Then it goes into the crock pot with a can of cream of mushroom soup until it just falls apart. Put it on a bun or use it in just about any recipe that uses pork.
Mmmm, mmmm, good!!!
Dick, that strategy to get the skull mount was pure genius! You will surly be able to out think a javie and a nice hog.
I cooked up a javie leg last winter and my son took a bite and asked, "What is this dad?" "Javelina" I told him, still wondering what his opinion of the flavor was. When he asked, "Any more of it in the freezer?" I knew he was hooked.

Kirk
Woooohooooooo!! Looking forward to meeting everyone. I'll get there Friday evening/night!
going crazy waiting for an update on this hunt guys? Anyone back yet?
Some of us are home. I know Dick updated his website with pics and a story. I am sure the boys will be along soon to tell the tale.
As for me, I didn't kill anything. Saw 5 yotes the first night and 3 BIG hogs but no shots offered. Then nothing but blue quail and cows for the next day and a half.
Curtis is as nice a guy as everyone says.
Doug,Dan,Bill and Dick, I had a good time shooting with you boys. Anytime you need another guy in camp I would love to join you.
So almost 10 years with a longbow and I'm still looking for my first kill, other than small game.
Thanks Curtis.
Kirk
Thanks Kirk,
I'm going to check out Dick's website now. Sorry you didn't connect...
It happens.
Dick has some good photos of the place and his experience.
Kirk
I'm home! Certainly one of the good parts of any trip!
I've posted my logs to the Old Phartt's site. I'm going to post the links as a separate thread, but I know you guys are anxious, so here's a copy of the post I sent a bit ago to the HH Longbowmen:
>>>Urgghhhh.... That's the sound of someone who got in from a very, very long day of air travel at 2 a.m. and just got up to over 400 total emails in the various in-boxes... But I'm getting there!
FANTASTIC ADVENTURE!!! And, yes, I'm shouting 8^) I kept a very voluminous web log and processed it as I went, so it was close to ready for posting when i got home. I went over it quickly this morning and posted.... four long, connected pages.
The structure is kind of complex. It turned out the easiest way to do it was to write a daily (more or less) narrative, then supplement that with picture layouts with additional comments. I really think that if you read the narratives, then the pictures, you should have a heck of a feeling of coming on the hunt with me.
If you're new in the last month and haven't read the start of the Big Bad Wolf Adventure, here's a link to the beginning:
http://oldpharttsarchery.com/shooting-adventures/bigbadwolf/bigbadwolf.html
The story of the hunt itself has been added to that page and can be accessed from it, or, if you have already read that part, here is a link that starts with the beginning of the actual hunt:
http://oldpharttsarchery.com/shooting-adventures/bigbadwolf/7thagehunt/7thage-1.html
OK... now I can get a shower, shave, a cup of coffee and a pipe. I'll be really interested in hearing your reactions and/or questions and will then settle in to answer, discuss, fill in, or whatever.
Thanks, Curtis and all you guys... it was great!
I have to say I read the story earlier and it is AWESOME! CONGRATULATOINS!!!
Way to to Dick!! I've kept up with your Big Bad Wolf Chronicles, and I was pulling for you the whole time!
Curtis..thats a sweet little Toyota FJ...what year is it? I had a '77, but mine didn't have the split front windshield in it...
Congrats on the good trip everybody!
Great story Dick  and congrads on a fine Javie, and a big congrads to all the other hunters, looks like you guys had a great time. I'll be there next April to take care of the hogs if there's any left.
I've wanted to do one of these hunts for a long time and I'm sure glad I did. I had a blast! I was lucky enough to kill two javalina. These are my first trad kills after five years of trying.
What a great group of guys to hunt with. We had a lot of fun and laughs together for sure. Great job telling the tale Dick.
Curtis is a great guy. I highly recommend doing one of these trips if you can. It was a blast. I will do it again.
I was going to post some pics but I think what Dick has on his thread covers it all.(also I don't know how:)
Curtis, Dan, Dick, Doug and Kirk, It was a pleasure hunting with you guys and I'd do it again anytime......bill
Big Congrats Dick...
Home again, home again but not a stitch unpacked! LOL! I'm staring out the window at a 1000# of gear still hanging from the tired Ford.
As has been said, what a great trip! I worry constantly when starting hunts on new property. I worry that somehow the property won't live up to what I consider to be a GOOD hunting ranch. Well, I think I found my comfort zone when I saw the first javelina tracks going through camp. They came through camp the first two nights I was there. They seemed to be everywhere we drove but seemed to become less and less interested in showing themselves as the hunt progressed. Beside the javelina there are more true trophy class hogs here than I've ever seen on any one ranch that I've ever been on. It's just incredible!
I had a great time with everyone! It's always a special event when I have clients who've not yet had the opportunity to take their first game animal with a trad bow. Great job Dick! You did great overcoming all those worried about obstacles. Now you know that you are truly able. A most sincere congrats is in order!
All you guys were great! I do hope we'll all gather again and enjoy some Texas sunshine and great hunting opportunities. CK
Curtis you gotta let me know what your upcoming dates and openings are. I really want to hunt with you again. Perhaps Jan. or Feb.
Kirk
Glad you made it back OK, Curtis. Thanks for a great time. What's your tee shirt size, Medium or Large? I'll send you an official Old Phartt's Archery tee shirt. I know you're not an old phartt yet, but then, I wasn't a hunter when I went to Texas and I made it... you'll make old phartt'dom eventually, too 8^)
Like you, I've still got all the putting away to do.
Hey, you guys should have seen Dan charming his way through airport security with 45 pounds of raw pork! He picked the line with three ladies on it and it was an awesome performance!
Awesome story and great hunt with da man!
Glad ya'll had a great time, can't wait till New Years!
Thanks Kirk! The feelings are mutual. I have a couple openings in January and I have a whole 7 day period I'll be booking for the close of javelina season in the end of February.
Dick, I'll be sporting a medium in everything but hunting clothes. Thanks for the shirt. Your javelina head is simmering nicely on the stove. CK
Kirk... shirt will go out tomorrow... you gonna get any soup stock from that head?
