The type of bow stringer I have has shoes that capture the very tips of the limbs on my Martin Dream Catcher. This has always appeared to me to place a lot of stress on the most narrow part of the limbs. Have any of you ever seen this cause a problem (a disaster if a limb tip broke off)? Thanks for any thoughts or advice.
I used a similar type stringer on my Great Plains recurve for years and never had a problem...And I usually unstring after every time I shoot.
It's basically the same pressure your string puts on the limb, if it breaks while stringing it would blow apart while shooting.
No problem as long as the stringer does not slip off the limb tips. Some of my limb tips are small and the stringer top limb pocket is sometimes too deep to be able to string and unstring the bow. I then put some cord material in the pocket with part of the cord sticking out a little ways. The cord fills up the bottom of the pocket and makes it more shallow so I can get the string into or out of the top groove. I can then use the tag end of the cord to pull the core out of the pocket to use the stringer on other bows. It helps to just tie a piece of cord on the stringer for that purpose.
Don't worry about the limb tip. It is designed to handle that force and much more.

I hate those kind of stringers :mad: I prefer the Selway or BearPaw srtringers. :)
Always use a stringer, no matter what brand it is. Its the safest way to string and unstring your bow.

There is a possibility of that type stringer twisting the limb if you do not pull straight up on the bow handle as you string it--twist the riser a bit and you will place sideways torque on the limb tip at the very place most likely to cause a twist. I have known of bows being broken that way.......Dave
Believe it or not, the tip of a bow limb is the point of lowest stress, not highest.
Stringers scare the heck outta me, but they obviously work.
That top limb pocket has always scared me cause the tip is barely in there so you can get string in the groove.
I use a Selway for that very reason, great big lower pocket and no top pocket.
