Sad story. To all the Bear Questers, be safe and aware.

Sad news. From reading the related link, it seems that their have been two recent fatalities in Canada.

Thanks for posting this Simon. I had a couple in last year that showed little or no fear at my presence.    Grant

I fear the same will happen in New Jersey since they haven't reopened the season and bears have absolutely no fear of humans. I've had a few close encounters while hunting but a poor kid waiting for a school bus won't stand a chance.

Yes, a black bear. There are no brown bears in Quebec. Some can have a light colored coat, brown to beige but are still of the black bear species (Ursus americanus).

There has been 6 deaths by bear in the last 26 years in the province of Quebec. That’s a little over 1 death in every 4 years. I remember hearing about a few where the victims were really the ones to blame, taunting the bear, but the last two (this years and last years) it seems like the bears were actually hunting down the victims. Some individuals, bears and people alike, seem to have lost the innate fear of one an other.
