Title: Needin a mentor.
Post by: HcSmitty on September 15, 2009, 05:29:00 PM
Hi everyone.  My name is Hunter.  Ive been into traditional archery for about 4 years.  Ive killed 2 dear and am starting to REALLY get serious about traditional archery.  However i dont have alot of knowledge about bows, and arrow sizes etc etc.  What i want is to really get maximum performance from my gear.  So im shooting a recurve that is 62", 54# at 28 inches.  My draw length is 27.1 inches.  So i assume im shooting about 51 or 52 pounds.  I want to shoot carbon arrows, i kind of like Carbon express heritage 150's.  Would this be alrite?  How long would u say my arrows should be and what size field tips and broad heads should i use????( i measeured my draw length by standing with my arms out and measureing from fingertip to fingertip several times.)  Can somebody please help me? Thank you.

Hunter

Your arrows should be at least an inch longer than your draw length.  The 150's look a little weak but could be alright if your not using much weight on the tip of your arrow. If your using heavy brass inserts or weight tubes then you may want to try the 250's.  It all depends on your arrow flight. If your getting good penetration and arrows are flying true then your all right.  Are your arrows flying true or are they hitting to the right or the left?

Hi there. I'm not much on carbon arrows, but I think that the 150's would be ok. I would use the 125 gr. points and start out full length and cut a 1/2" off at a time until you get what you are looking for. A better way to measure your draw length is to take a snap clothes pin and put it on your arrow and draw 3-4 times to find your length, and leave your arrows at least and inch longer. Good luck Hap

I shoot 150'4 cut to 29.75 with 250 up front out of a 48#@28" bow I pu alot of work into fine tunning these and they fly great and hit hard. 150s are the way to go 250 would be too stiff IMO
