Does anyone know what the brace height should be on a 62" saxon hawk recurve?
I bought it second hand and it was braced at 7".
It a great shooter but it is very noisy.
The string it came with was 12 strand.
Assuming that the string was NOT dacron, I replace it with a 14 strand dacron string.
ITS STILL LOUD!!!
I also tried lowering the brace but after loosing several fillings I returned it to 7".
Maybe I am trying to correct the wrong problem!!
I dont know.
My draw is 27.5" and I was shooting legacy 2020.
ANY advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks
I would try raising the brace alittle at a time maybe upto 7&1/2" to see if that helps to quieten. Also I like to add bow hush or wrap the end of the string with some wool yarn where it contacts the limbs, just like what bow hush does. Most recurves I've had usally like a brace from 7&3/8" to 8".Sounds like your string might be slapping the belly of the limbs.
Thanks! I will give it a try!!
I have a 62" hawk. The paper work that came with the bow says brace height will range from 6 1/2" to 7 1/2" with the most common being 7 1/8" to 7 1/4". With my bow the 7 1/2" brace is where it is the quietest.
She started to quiet down at 7 1/4".
At 7 3/8" just a bit more.
Took her to 7 1/2" and she made but a whisp.
Just to make sure that was the spot, i took her to 7 7/8" and she twanged like a banjo string.
I wrapped the string ends and threw on some beaver balls. Now shes as quiet as can be.
She really is a fine shooting bow!!
I cant believe I thought she was braced to high to begin with.
Thanks to all for your help!!!
