I am going to try cedar arrows and 2-blade Magnus broadheads. How do you test if the broadhead is sharp enough? DO you use a rubber band, paper or by trying to cut hair off your arm? I am using the green hand tool to sharpen. Will that be enough to get the broadhead sharp enough. Thanks for any suggestions. Ken
You'll get a lot of answers. The good news in the Magnus are great heads...and great heads to learn how to sharpen on.
As a starting point, if it'll take hair off your arm "easily" it's sharp enough. A common mistake though is thinking that if the back half of the blade is sharp so it the front half. That's not true and you want the the entire blade to take hair off.
The "how" to sharpen is a big subject. Not a hard subject...but big. Try your tool and get back to us. It may be all you need.
Test shave arm hair. Ron at KME knows how to easily keep your BH's sharp. He may even have a "how to" in the archives. Customer service squared.
Magnus are great broadheads, just ask Charlie Lamb! If you can sharpen your knife, you should have no problem with these broadheads. From what I have heard, the KME is a great system. A good sharp file and or any quality stone will get the job done though if you take your time. Just do a search for broadhead sharpening and you will be reading for a week.
If you can hold some "regular" 20lb computer paper (8" x 11") at the middle (11" side) and slice the paper cleanly in half 2 to 3 times..it's very sharp....check out sharpening zwickys thread where i do it...good luck
I shave arm hair and use rubber bands. I hold a rubber band between my index and middle finger and thumb and third finger with very little tension. Rest the boradhead on it and push from the nock. This lets me test both the front and rear sections of the blade.
