I am really just finding myself dedicated to Trad and love it, probably won't be going back to the wheels.
But... as I scan through most of the threads looking for topics that might catch my eye. Whenever I notice George's avatar I always stop and read even if I wasn't really fully interested in the thread. I just have to see what he has to say and how he makes his point, wether it be straight to the point or just comically sarcastic, I usually get a smile out of it.
Thanks George for all the laughs and advice you have givin us! and thats no joke.
James
I always read Georges posts. Good info from a good guy.
Yes among many others.
I enjoy his responses, and learn from everything he posts....he is a fountain of knowledge!!!!!
who is this mythical being you speak of? :smileystooges:
Yep, I like his wisdom and humour! He doesn't let us youngsters get away with any nonsense! Thanks, George!
sure do! :D
When you get to be as old as George....you get away with a lot more! ;) :saywhat:
Absolutely! George is a traditional archery treasure.
Who's George Stout?
sure do I wish at 68 years young I had just 10% of his knowledge of archery and hunting...god bless him
Bill
He is my loving, knowing, poetic, good shooting, and a little sexy hansom twin. you rock George :clapper:
I like him because he shoots a Shakespeare.
:clapper:
I too, find myself drawn to his posts. The reward is usually a bit of wisdom along with a good chuckle.
Yes, I guess George is alright,a little too crusty and set in his ways for my likes, :goldtooth: but, that is probably a good thing these days.
We all could use a little of his no nonsense approach to life.
George is like a library full of trad archery wisdom, love his posts and his outlooks on so many things. George is a great guy.
He's a great guy and a true master; because of George, I have greatly accelerated and enhanced my journey to The Land of Curmudgeondum ;)
I used to until I saw an undercover 60Minutes episode that showed him in Cabelas buying ScentLock, Dead Down Wind, GoreTex and full Sitka Gear suit.I understand he was going to Africa for a canned giraffe hunt and was being sponsored by a cross bow company and Rage broadheads. They say the girraffe was hand reared and should be the new Rowland Ward world record.I think the show is going to be aired on the Spike channel.Or maybe it was the Spice channel, I cant recall.
Great stuff I always click on his post.
Dave
And oh yeah, I also heard from one of his kin who requested to remain annonymous that he is allergic to wool. :bigsmyl:
Summary: Cheap is good, old is good, I do it my way, I might try your way but I won't like it, want to hear a poem? George is unique and finds ways that will make you think without making you think your stupid. I am a George fan
I always check on the "George" threads. Over the years George has been a great help on my Hoyt questions. I stopped to take a few pics last week on a scouting trip and thought about George and his "walks with a bow threads"... I have been asking him to repost all of his stone wall pics but he must be busy taking other pics because we have not seen any of those cool old stone wall pics again.. LOL
A couple of my "Stout" walk in the woods pics.

Heckofa Poemist & good guy.
I put a response in a post two weeks ago that I think I could get along with him just fine in camp!
Seems like a good guy with tons of knowledge.

I think you are on to something Izzy.

I heard he has something to do with Wal-Mart Biggie. :biglaugh:
George is definitely a Joker in the deck of life. One of the most amusing guys here.
George not only shoots a Shakespear recurve he might be the only person I know that has actually read Shakespear and understood it.
Yes he is humorous and also ridiculously opinionated and old school to the extreme.
To make fun of others who want to learn and know more about the science and why thing happen in archery is to dicourage future archers in the sport. The younger and new trad shooters are fully intrigued by the nuances and minutua of the sport.
No ding on George, he is welcome to his opinions. He knows a lot more than many of us about the sport. I just feel that someone of his experience could keep the humor and encourage those who are still trying to find their preferred set up by sharing the why and how of his long experience and wisdom along with his humor.
George is one of the good guys for sure!
He might be opinionated, but I bet he looks you in the eyes when you meet for the first time.
We need more like him...everywhere.
While I always read and respect simplicity and clarity of his posts, there is - and always should be - room for other opinions. What works for one guy may not be applicable to another.
Some people believe the greatest days of archery have already passed. I believe that the "good old days" are right now.
George is my kind of guy take him or leave him, he doesn't care. He stands for what he beleives in :)
I love his posts, been reading them for years here and elsewhere and will continue to.
Jack
Great replies guys and gals. I know not everyone agrees with everybody but.. Please make sure that any comments are respectful on this topic. I didn't and would not want to make this any type of bbq. From what I have read I like the guys outlook on trad.
Thanks,
James
When you have been into traditional archey as long as George you are entitled to your opinion. Most of us read what George has to say, cherry pick his comments and recommendations, and move on without being insulted by his brashness. There is no doubt in my mind that George loves Traditional Archery and that makes him alright by me. Besides that, he still hunts with the Bear Razorheads as do I. I'd share a campfire with George anytime.
Never met him in person, but I wonder if he is kinda like that grandpa that is ALMOST always right?(that is meant genuinely) Occasionally off the mark, but so seldom no one is gonna' say much.
Respectfully intended,
-Charlie
I admire him for the way he applies his hard earned knowledge to killing so many mature animals .Killing is still part of the hunt.
Is he the guy that had the giraffe shot in the knee before he took him? Just kidding George!
I don't like how he always jumps on the band wagon for all the latest trendy gotta have broadheads, camoflauge and bows.
I have altered equipment, form and attitude in response to posts made by George. All changes thus far have proved positive. If we all took the time to honor and learn from our 'elders' we'd be in a much better society - no doubt in my mind.
Cranky old fart-ness comes from seeing the repeated failures and follies of a generation that doesn't value the lessons you've learned the hard way. I'm only 36 but believe me I feel the early onset. I for one value blunt advice. That being said, George has never struck me as cranky or old-fart-like, in fact, I imagine a very patient teacher who leeds you to your own conclusions and understanding. This quality is a subtle one and often overlooked. I'd be willing to bet many a 'new idea' or inspiration has been had on the insight George's gentle persuasion has afforded.
We should all hope to have as many look upon us favorably as George does. A life thus far very well lived, my friend, and may you continue to illuminate the way for many, many, many years to come. God bless you George.
Dang, that guy can write!
Killdeer :clapper:
George is the MAN!!
Tradgangs' Robert D Rayford,he throws it out there because that's what he believes, and is always thought provoking which is good, people get lethargic if left in their comfort zone too long THANKS George.
I listen "literaly" to every word he say's, I alway's get a smile and a chuckle, or I give a "dang tooten"!!! lot's of good ol' wisdom, and a young feller like me ought to listen!! Jason
You mean that old dude right?? :-))
Naw he really has great advice and how to stay grounded in trad - sted of chasin the latest greatest all the time.
Thanks George!
J
Yeah George is one of the good guys for sure and I enjoy reading his posts. Would love to spend some time with him. However don't always assume being old brings wisdom. I've known several folks young and old with the attitude "dont confuse me with the facts my mind is made up" or "I do it this way, it works for me and no one can or should do it any different". All in all I agree with most everything he says though! lol
I always look for his posts and enjoy what he has to say- even when he's wrong!ha
He is the only one to use a word that I just HAD to look up the meaning in the Dictionary. Thanks George
A very nice fella for sure! I really enjoy his posts.
When George D. Stout talks, people listen!
George is a wealth of knowledge and I always enjoy reading his posts. Thanks George!
GOOD SHOOTING!
Slufoot
Yes I do but I have got to clear something up!! George is 3 yrs younger than I am and I ain't old so that means George must be young.
Just so ya'd know :)
rusty
Two thoughts in addition to a high regard for George's advice and commentary.
1. I don't care whether he hunts with a Shakespeare or a Dylan Thomas, if he actually understands Shakespeare I'm impressed.
2. If Killdeer says someone writes well, as she did, that should be taken as high praise. Not many have her facility with the language.
