My son and I were shooting in the backyard this evening when a young guy (8? 10?) stopped by to collect for the local neighborhood newspaper. As my wife doled out some cash, he noticed us shooting and I heard his excited voice "hey mom - they're shooting bows!".
Of course, I invited him back. Dylan got his lighter bow and the young man shot with us for probably 30 minutes. While were were shooting, his mom pulled me aside and told me that tomorrow is his birthday and did I know of anywhere to get a bow for him. :-D
I pointed her to a couple of places and chatted with him about archery and hunting and stuff. Eventually the mom had to pull him away to finish collecting but it looks as if this young man may be on his way to joining our ranks at some point.
Nice goin.
Congrats!!! There is an 11 year old who lives next door that will invite himself over and ask to shoot. Lots of fun for me and my kids.
Kids + Archery = :archer:

Great job recruiting guys! Bowhunting is a great thing to get kids involved in, we spent 3 years producing "The Journey Begins" DVD to give you all a great tool to help you do that. Sit a kid down and let him watch it and they will see why we love it! Click on our banner ad to go to our web site for info. Feel free to email or call me if you have any questions. Terry Green and Todd Smith have seen it and you could ask them what they think about it, Terry started a post called where's Lucas where he comments on it too.
Way to go Jim.
I don't see kids getting this stuff in government run schools and there's little on TV that would lead a kid down this path. If we don't all do our bit to help spread the word, its only a matter of time until this gets taken away from us.
Happy 9/12 - everyone. :-D
