I know some of you come to my home state to chase whitetails. Just had a conversation with my local sheriff. They are starting to see a large problem with people that advertise hunting leases on popular web-sites. They meet with you, show you the land, give you a map and take your $. Tell you that the land is yours for the season, week, etc. The problem comes when the real owner of the property finds you on his land and calls you in for trespassing. The guys doing the advertising and taking the money have no rights to the land. They just dissapear with your cash. I am sure this is a problem in many other states as well. Just make sure if you pay for hunting rights, that you are payng the true landowner. Tax papers matched up with an ID. Check the local tax property web-sites. That is something that would ruin a season! Just thought I would pass it on.

Katie, altho I don't hunt in IA anymore, thanks for watchin out for other folks!
We have had the same here!
A guy here in my county tried to lease me cow pasture that he didn't own. Its amazing how crooked some people are. The guy did lease the land to someone else and when it went to court the judge threw it out saying it was civil NOT CRIMINAL!! Where is the justice?? That judge was bought and paid for!
Thanks for the heads-up,could save some grief for someone.
I hunt in my home sate of Mn.
I am 60 years old and never hunted a leased property in my life. Solves that problem.
Never say never! It's a good idea to check out on all out of state hunts. Thanks and good shootin, steve
Katie..thanks for the heads up
I can say never. I've also never leased land and never will. There....I said it three times.
Nice heads-up for those that do.
I've seen it happen in Missouri, too. Landowner sold the property to out-of-state person, but continued to take money for hunting rights from others. Saw the transaction with my own eyes!
