Title: Went to Bob Morrison's.. New Shawnee !
Post by: richbear on September 09, 2009, 11:07:00 PM
I got the chance to go to Morrison Archery over the weekend to pick up my new Shawnee and was totally amazed..I'm still in shock! I had the pleasure to see some of the finest bows I've ever seen in one place. Did I say I  was in shock, there were some of the most beautiful bows with a lot of wood combo's that I've never seen, again totally amazed! I guess I don't have much of an imagination when it comes to woods, I'm stuck on cocobolo and ebony but when I saw that black and white ebony ILF bow with water snake skins that finished me off. Thought I'd died and gone to bow heaven. Can't get those ILF risers out of my mind, gotta have one. Bob and his lovely wife were gracious host and I'd like to thank them for letting me into their home, not a nicer couple on the planet.  My new Shawnee is 64" 45@28 gaboon ebony with a cocobolo flare, carbon and foam limbs and shoots lites out. I haven't taken any pics yet but here's one that Bob had sent me. Enjoy, Rich.  (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b147/richbear/MyMorrison1.jpg)

I whole heartedly agree on both counts. Bob is a really great guy and his bows are awesome. My wife and I both have one. I visited his place a couple years ago and he does great work.

My problem is that I can't buy just one because those Morrisons are so beautiful and shoot so well. I am reminded of the cartoon where the executive is sent a new secretary by the personnel department who is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. When he sees her all he can say is, "And she types too!!!!????" I feel that way about Bob's beautiful bows -- they shoot too, and do so as well as any bow made. Furthermore, Bob and Barb are treasures themselves. The archery community is darn lucky to have the Morrisons among us!

Amar911,
That is a problem with Bob's bows. Can't have just one.A buddy of mine came over to shoot one of my morrisons last year and now he owns 3 of Bob's bows.

Very nice. Just one thing though...now I'll probably get jumped or edited for this...but how come the limbs don't look like they fit the riser. Do you know what I mean? Where they attach to the riser it has always looked like the limbs should fill in or cover the whole area that is flat on the riser and not just the lower area....just an observation...that I probably should have kept to myself I guess. Bob builds a great bow. I just always wondered why the limbs on the Cheyenne and the Shawnee don't fit the riser or match up to the riser like they are made for each other...but what do I know...

JC's Black and White ebony is still drying. It should be ready by next summer. By then I should have that limb to riser thing all flowing together. Of course everyone will have to buy a new bow, new limbs will not fit on the old riser and the new riser will not accept old limbs and will not shoot any better. Oh well, you can't satisfy everyone, but we keep trying.

Snag, Not sure why maby we should ask Bob.But I have measured and the limbs are centered on the riser.Maby the riser has a 2 fold purpose making it easy to modify for a diffrent limb. The limb anchor holes possibly could be drilled for a diffrent limb.Just a guess .I own three of his bows and like them.

It's obviously not a big deal to people Bob. They love your bows! I was just wondering why they are like that. I'm not trying to make trouble...I'm just the curious type I guess. I am real into lines and curves on bows and when I spot something I don't understand I just have to ask.  If the limb to riser thing were flowing together I'd be out a lot more money....  :banghead:

Snag, You would not be out any more money than you are right now. Your not concerned at all about why......... Your trying to stir some... This isn't the 1st Time I have seen you pull this on a thread. If you were really interested you would have called and ask me. Too late for that, Don't bother.

I am a longbow type of guy but my Cheyenne Recurve is my favorite bow ever which says alot to me.I have the new carbon/foam limbs they are super fast and quiet plus fit and finish is second to no other bow I ever owned.I bought a new Morrison mini 14 ILF longbow a few weeks back its very, very nice too.I have owned about all of the name brand bows out there and 90% of all of the carbon limb bow made right now. Bobs bows and the Shrews have been my favorite overall.

Richbear, awesome bow!  Sounds like you love yours like I do mine.  I've got a pair of A-riser E-limbs carbon foams and they have really spoiled me to other bows.

Enjoy your new bow!

I apologize if you think I am trying to "stir" up anything. I asked a straight forward question. I thought that would be ok...guess not.

Snag (David) -- I have no problem with your preference for bows other than Morrisons! I am still enjoying the Cheyenne I bought from you a year or so ago. It's a good thing people want different things or I would have one fewer Morrison bow.

One of the things that is appealing about the Morrisons is that the limbs and risers are interchangeable. I like that. I also like bows such as the Brackenburys and Blacktails where the limbs are fitted to the riser. Both kinds are beautiful to me, and with the Morrisons I don't have to send the riser back if I want another set of limbs. I can't argue with the statement that the fitted limbs look sleeker and -- well -- more fitted, but the Morrisons are more versatile. Everything in life is a tradeoff, and Bob does an excellent job of maximizing the utility of his bows while building a bow that is up near the top of the list on beauty. Your old Cheyenne with rosewood and macasser ebony riser and rosewood veneer limbs is gorgeous in my opinion. I love your Blacktails too though and have a couple of those artworks myself. I don't know anyone who builds a prettier bow than Norm Johnson.

I have seven or eight Morrison bows (and some extra sets of limbs), and none of them are for sale. My problem is that I am out of room on my bow racks but I still want more of Bob's bows! My favorite bows are Morrisons, Brackenburys, Shrews and Blacktails (not in any particular order), although I have a number of other makes of bows that I also like a lot. If I could only pick one bow to own, a Morrison would be one of the finalists I would want to choose from.

I only have four...
a Dakota, Bob's ACS, a Cheyenne, and the one-piece Arapaho. You would think that would do it, but I always have my eye out. Bob, you wouldn't happen to have another Arapaho gathering dust somewhere, would you? Say, 46 pounds at 26.5"?

Bob, that is a beauty. I love my Mini 14 ILF with the foam core limbs and it will never be for sale, and for me to say that it says a bunch,LOL. As you know I have owned a bunch of your bows and I loved them all but the mini 14 just does it for me.

I just took up traditional archery this year and i have went a little crazy and ordered 7 custom bows because i wanted to find one that i really liked. I have gotten 4 of the bows thus far with my Morrison ILF arriving last week. I could have saved myself a lot of money if i would have ordered Bobs bow first. This ILF recurve is so smooth and quite and the workmanship is out of this world. Also both Bob and Barb spent a lot of time talking with me and answering a ton of questions that someone new to trad archery would have. My next bow will be a Morrison ILF longbow with snakeskins (copperheads i hope) and a quiver to match it. The day he gets a pair of copperheads that will fit a 64in bow will be the day i order another one of his beautiful bows. I just cant say enough about how wonderful they treated me and how interested Bob was in making sure that i got exactly what i wanted.

How long do the skins need to be for your 64" bow? I have a set of nice copperheads that I could be talked out of. Air dried skins.

I have been wanting a Mini 14" riser with "C" longbow limbs for a LONG time (Allan can attest to that, LOL). I recently aquired a set of "C" Carbon/foam ILF Longbow limbs with Copperheads and they are Gorgeous! I have my new Mini14 riser on order now (Bubinga and Phenolic with Cocobola/maple overlays), I absolutely cannot wait to get that combo together!

They need to be 29in long unless they have the heads on them then they can be 28in.

Thanks

I shot my 54" mini 14" ILF longbow tonight man is it super quiet and a very forgiving bow to shoot.I can tell you it's a tough choice when I go shoot in the evenings between my 54" ILF and 54" Cheyenne Recurve.Bob makes some of the best short bows out there at this time.

I sure can attest to Lewis wanting the Mini-14 with C longbow limbs for a long time. He would have loved to trade me something to get mine, but there is no way I will ever be selling the one I own. I hunted with my Mini-14 and C longbow limbs with Bob Morrison and JC Coots, and we did a lot of target and stump shooting in between the hunting. By the end of the hunt JC was putting in his order with Bob for a similar ILF bow.

I don't know anything that is not to love with the Morrisons. I own more than anyone has a right to, but none of them or the extra limbs are for sale. If Danny isn't willing to sell his, he must be in love with it, because Danny has sold more bows than most people have ever seen!
