Looking to get (back) into trad- I tried many moons ago, but never gave it 100%.
I'm looking into having a Great Northern Ghost built for me (as my 40th B-day present) and looking for opinions. I know GN generally is highly regarded (and I've always wanted one), but I'm a bit unsure about the Ghost, or going with a Critter Gitter. Anyone care to share any experiences with either design?
Also, I have smallish hands- would the traditional grip likely be a better option over the locator? I had a Saxon longbow at one point, and it was about as big as I like in a grip (it was a very subtle locator style)

You wont go wrong with any of the great northern bows. My favorite is the super gohst.I love that handle and can shoot it real well. to me, all of the GN. grips are smallish. They should fit you well. Tell Jerry I said HI.

I love my Ghost! I'm a Hill guy and prefer the straight grip on my longbows and that's probably why I shoot this little Ghost (straight grip) better than any recurve i've ever shot! Fast, smooth, quiet, and dead in the hand - what more could you ask for! Can't compare to the locator grip as i've never shot one, but they look small as well.

I have a small hand, and don't have any trouble with either the straight, locator or SG grip(have all three). Due to a previous wrist injury, I prefer the straight grip, but shoot all three equally well(or poorly, as the case may be ;) )
Thanks everyone- from the research I've done and people's comments, The Great Northerns and the Ghost seem like a no-brainer choice (which is comforting with the multitude of bowyers/brands out there).
The Ghost is the finest recurve I have ever shot. I'm on my third one! I'm gonna keep this one!
A couple of years ago, I picked up a used straight grip Critter Gitter and it has become my go to bow. My suggestion would be to shoot both bows, the Ghost and the CG, and both grips. I've shot the locator and like it, too. My CG is a great hunting bow; very quiet has good cast. The ghost will be somewhat quicker and I have always heard that it is very quiet as well. If you have a set preference for a longbow or recurve, that will probably make the deciding difference.
Hard to go wrong with Great Northern and Jerry is top notch. The locator on the Ghost or Critter Gitter is very small and not at all much larger than the straight grip. You just need to decide which would be more comfortable for your shooting. Either bow would be a great choice.
Have had 3 superghosts and 2 critter gitters.I liked em both alot.The grips are small and the new ones I have seen have smaller grips than the older ones on the superghost recurve.
I think either bow would be a good choice.Tbhe superghost is cut to center.The ghost is 1/8th out from center.The longbow is 1/8th out from center also.They offer the locator/index grip these days and its nice.
I think the critter gitter is quieter and the ghost is faster.
Had a Super Ghost, should'a kept it, got a Bush Bow now and like that one also. Great Bows, you won't go wrong with either choice.

Look into the jacknife option if you can afford it, you will glad you did. I like the fireball has properties of both the ghost and the crittergitter.
No finer line of bows in the world, and Jerry is a super great guy. Get the straight grip for sure. I have four GN bows all with the straight grip. Go for it!
