So I have been seeing a lot of recurve risers with Longbow limbs attaqched lately and I really don't know much about longbows.. I have always been curious about shooting a longbow and thought these would be an interesting thing to try. What is the advantage or disadvantage to using this type of a setup. Is there really a difference in shooting a bow like this to a regular recurve? Can one easily switch between a longbow and a recurve back and forth or are they much too different? Any info would be appreciated!
I just bought a kajika stik this past spring from whisperstik bows, bowyer Jd Lund! I took the plunge and got both recurve and longbow limbs, I love the fact that I can switch back and forth between the two limbs and sill have the same feel and shoot the same, my biggest problem is that i love shooting both and some times have a hard time deciding which to shoot, the switch over is quick and easy though! I do kind of lean toward the longbow more as I'm a longbow kinda guy!! hope this helps! Jim

Thats a nice bow! But what is the difference in limb style, does one have more handshock, longbow limbs slower less efficient? What are the drawbacks/advantages to longbow limbs. You did pretty much asnwer the fact you switch back and forth and don't have to switch form though, that was helpful
that depends...but many 3 piece longbows are more 3 piece recurves with straight limbs.
Pay attn to the grips and the riser how its cut...
Ah yes I realize the shooting form diference with the grip, elbow bend, etc. But have never seen much in the way the difference in limbs, so I am going to assume that there is no difference in performance or shootablilty assuming the draw weight is the same for a recurve limb or straight limb then.
by performance you mean speed?
in theory there is...but it depends on the bow designer themselves. I'm sure some straight limbed recurves shoot just as fast and efficient as any recurve on the market these days. I know it's not much of a help. But you'll have to do your homework on the bows you're interested in.
They are whisper quiet like a traditional longbow. And with a heavy riser and recurve grip there is usually no handshock, no handshock if the limbs are made correctly. One a good design they are as fast as most good recurves. I love them, i want one bad!!!!
BM22, Thats some good analysis, Makes sense I guess, I honestly don't know jack about longbows so I didn't know they were quieter than recurves but after thinking about it it makes sense! Thanks all!
