Title: Hunting Hogs with Wensel Woodsmans?
Post by: Deer Slayer on January 05, 2007, 06:52:00 PM
Who here has hunted hogs with WW heads and what kind of results did you get? Thinking about trying them but have heard 2-blades are typically better on hogs than 3-blades. But the Woodsmans are narrower than the typical 3 blade so was just curious if anyone has tried them on pigs before? Thanks.

I was on a hunt in May where 5 of us took 6 hogs -- all with WW heads!

The WW head performed great for all of us!

I have used them with good results.I still like a bigger two blade however for the better blood trail. They will shoot right through a hog however with out much bow weight.

I've used WW and grizzlys, both hogs dead within 50 feet, but I didn't hit bone with either.  So it wasn't a torture type of test.

tmccall is out of pocket but, 4 of those bows are dryads. 2 are windtalkers and 2 are bushwackers. The fifth was a recurve but we are working on converting him as we speak.

My buddy shot 3 with WW last year on our hog hunt.  The smallest was @40# and the largest was @180#.  All shots had the WW at LEAST hanging out the off side.  He was shooting a 560gr arrow out of a 54# bow @ 180FPS.

We are going again the 26th of this month....guess which head I am going to use.....WW for me!!!

thanks
citori

RC -- The two guys on the left are Mike and Jason Westvang of Dryad bows.  All 4 longbows in the pic were made by them and they are all works of art, as well as deadly!!!  Check them out, they ae a sponsor of TradGang.

My 2 cents - no. I have shot one hog with a WW and the shoulder blade stopped it cold less than 3" of penetration. I shoot two blades for better penetration. Any sharp head will work if the shot placement is good, give me the extra edge for the bone hits.
