I am well supplied with 2 colors of Gateway feathers and have always been satisfied with their performance. Lately I've been thinking of changing colors, and I've found a place on-line that sells Trueflight feathers by the feather - nice way to try out different colors without spending much money.
My questions are: Can I mix Gateway and Trueflight feathers on the same shaft? Are Gateways different from Trueflights, or are feathers just feathers?
True Flight and Gateway are diffrent. First of all the cut is slightly diffent, second Gateway has a thicker Quill or base than Trueflight. Mixing on the same shaft will not work out to good.
IOts not perfect but I've done it before mixed both gateway and trueflight. If your a super pro shooter yea you will notice a major difference. I'm comfy out to 30 and was able to still shoot the arrows. I used them on my stumping arrows and just some arrows to mess around with...didn't do it on my serious arrows lol.
That was shooting 4x4" sheild cuts FYI...not sure how it would affect a 3 fletch being the 4 fletch would be more balanced if you used same feathers on opposing sides of the shaft.
Thanks, fellas. Just what I needed to know!
I like the thinner quill on the Trueflights. I tried some Gateways but switched back. Gary
Thanks, Sagebrush. Is there anything about the thinner quill that makes you prefer them over the thicker ones? Also, I use fletching tape to stick my feathers on the shaft. Are the Trueflight quills wide enough to use tape?
Trueflight is my choice hands down.
