Hey all,
I draw 29 1/5 and do best shooting lower grip bows. All my bows are 60" or longer and I was thinking of ordering a custom bow in the 56" - 58" range. Any recommendations on a recurve or longbow in the 50# range that won't stack or pinch at those specs? Thank you.
If your looking for a short bow, take a look at the Sheep Eater by Black Mountain. I have one. I draw 29" the bow is 50" 53#@28" with no stacking.
I know Dan Toelke's recurves will work for you, he has made me a take-down and his 1 pc. Chinook, both superb bows in performance and looks plus they come with a low wrist locatoer grip and the Chinook is offered in a "classic" version with a leather wrap w/o the locator swell. Jim,
I've got a 64" Whip that I really like to shoot and I'd been looking at his shorter recurve as an option. Thank you for the input.

Black Swan 56" Hybrid or Recurve will work for you no problem.
Take a look at www.whisperstikbows.com (http://www.whisperstikbows.com) and se what JD makes. My draw isn't as long as yours, but a friend shot my 56" Mojo and had no problems with a 29" draw. JD's a heck of a bowyer and his bows really perform.
I've got one of JD's 62" bows too and it is a shooter. If I recall correctly JD told me that he'd redesigned his 56" Mojo and it'd handle a longer draw better than the 58". JD, if I misquoted you, please set the record straight.
Shrew Classic Hunter - 54" should be no issue. My 56" goes to 32" without any problem. It gains a consistent 2.5#/in from 27" to 32". Actually a few in the classifieds right now. Ron's list on a new one is long right now. Talk to Ron or Gregg.
Check out possibly Griffin too. Similar to the Shrew as John used to build for Ron.
Yup I second what BobW said. Shrew Classic Hunter would fit the bill perfectly.
I was just reading that thread asking about the same question as mine. BobW, a 6'7" guy with a 56" bow, that is a cool picture!
Shrew! Try one and you will be hooked!
Black swan, shrew, belcher ssr, and sheapeater are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
56" whisperstick. Only bow below 60" I have been able to shoot without fingerpinch. I have a 30" plus draw.
There are alot of bows that you can shoot that are shorter but my question would be shooting consistently... The Horne Brush bow in a 60" model would be a good choice... Maybe a shrew... I have a 30.5" draw and tried several shorter bows... I finally gave up on shorter bows and went back to the standard 66" longbow... :) Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I second the Shrews and Whisperstiks.I don't see how you could go wrong.
How short do you want to go. I picked up an older Great Northern Ghost recurve with a straight grip. Hardest hitting bow I've shot, quiet and very smooth, stack free draw.
I love my 56" whisperstik. The shrew is very nice. I want one some day. Try a shrew if you have like two years to wait and the money. I am watching for the right one to come up used. If you want a bow in like a month or two for a lot less, and made the way you want it try a whisperstik. The mojo is nice, but check out the Kajika also.
I draw 29 1/2" and my two favorite short bows are a Shrew (Classic Hunter or Lil Favorite) and a Morrison Mini-14 ILF with C limbs. The Shrews may be either 54" or 56" and the Morrison in that configuration is 56". These bows are great shooters and very handy. The Morrison has more mass and is therefore more stable. The Shrew will be lighter, handier and easier to carry around all day. Choosing one over the other would be difficult. I'm sure the other bows mentioned are nice too, but I have not tried most of them. I definitely trust David Knipes' recommendation on the Black Swan.
