Title: Camping in the Western Rockies
Post by: Gary Sewell on September 02, 2009, 05:23:00 PM
New to tradgang. Getting really to retire again and plan to spend some time bowhunting in some of the western states. I am 56 years old and I am more interested in comfort that sleeping on the ground. Did it all when I was younger. My hunting buddy and I have used a popup camper in Tennessee for the past 8 to 10 years. When I get back I plan to buy either a new popup, truck camper or a pull behind 17 to 28 foot. Any thoughts on campers or pictures of your camp or things to avoid. We have all the stuff to go with setting up a nice camp. I enjoy all of the pictures of camps, hunting, bows and landscapes I have seen on tradgang. Gary

Pop-up or pull behind are nice cus you can park em and leave em. Cab-over's are kind of a pain in the butt, unless you have another mode of transport.

Popups are nice, but look at some of the 'offroad' types if you plan on getting to the backcountry with your camp. We currently have a pickup camper; they are cramped, but can go lots of places you wouldn't pull a trailer. I have done it all; backpack tents, regular tents, wall tents, popups, travel trailers, a motor home (small), and a pickup camper. The perfect camper has yet to be developed; it all depends on what you want to do, and even then, something will be lacking.
Thanks for serving; we appreciate you protecting our nation in spite of criticism from the left. Stay safe.

I like the popup campers. that is my first joice. The "Evolution" with the high wheel base looks like it would do the job, lots of room and you still feel like your camping. Second would be the truck popup camper. Like you said it will go anywhere you can get your truck. By the way, I am not active duty but I have the honor of working with our nations finest young men and women. They have been asked to do far to much. They need our support and prayers.

I have a evolution e3 and love it, I have taken it a lot of places I would have only tent camped before.  Works great.

I love my cab over and I can tow my boat if I'm hunting the river as well.  Bigfoot doesn't seem as dangerous to me when I'm in my truck camper. :)

If I'm staying a few days I take it off the truck but I don't have any problem taking it off or putting it back on.
