Title: Arrow Recommendations
Post by: Kevin007 on September 02, 2009, 09:44:00 AM
Hi all, thanks to this great site and the kind folks here, I've learned a lot and am confident enough to hunt with my recurve this fall (though not entirely accurate but sufficient).

I do need one advise though. When I started shotting this summer, I started out with some Easton 2114 alumn. arrows that I picked up on clearance. I think they are spined to .5xx at 9.9gpi. It shot ok. I lost a bunch though. Now I can't find these arrows anywhere. Anyone have any arrow recommendations that would come close - prefer alumn.

I draw 26inch at 44lb, 125g tip on my recurve, The arrows are cut to somewhere around 28inch I think.

I was looking at the Easton 2117 gamegetter. Are these too heavy at 12gpi?

Please recommend and I am clueless...

Kevin.

Weight isn't the issue. I think your spined to heavy. I shoot 47# at 26" draw. Arrows are 27" When I shot aluminum ,I shot 1916's and 2013's. I can also shoot 2016's but I have to up the point weight to 150-160-grs. I went w/ cedar and get better penetration on game.ymmv

A 1916 would be better suited for your set up, the 2117 will more than likely be over spined.

Ok, this is getting interesting to me as I want to get to as close to a spine that will work for my shootings...
So if I was going by the Easton arrow shaft selector: Recurve Bow, Point weight: 125gr, bow weight 44-48lbs, Arrow Lenght: 28inches.

Easton suggest using 2212 or 2213 for lightest arrow and 2018 for heaviest. Does that sound right?

Looks like that spine range I am after is around 0.4xx? Does that sound like it's in the ball park?

Thanks in advance.
Kevin

Easton has a habit of recomending an over stiff arrow. They have changed the charts over the last 30yrs. Those spines MAY work, but you may have to load up the point weight. I know that 1916's worked for me. I also used to shoot them out of my compound 20yrs ago. That was a 28" arrow at 53#'s. Your spine should be around .500,maybe even .600. If you can get a hold of a couple 2213's,try them.My guess is they will be way over spined.

Why do you cut your arrows at 28" if you draw 26"?

I have a 26 1/2" draw and shoot 45# at that draw from my recurve.  I shoot a 2016 cut to 28 1/2" with a 126g head.

Either 1916 or 2016 should work fine for ya.
