Title: Giving back....
Post by: Mallardstacker on August 29, 2009, 08:17:00 PM
Until the last few days, I haven't been on here in a long time.  Long story short, family issues have kept me preoccupied and I just never got around to this site that I love.  Upon my return, I started reading some of David's (Kingwouldbe) posts.  I found the post where David explained that he'd been a victim of theft and the outpouring of support thereafter.  No where else on the web has the caliber of folks that we have on this little corner of the net  ;) !

To say I was inspired would be an understatement. I truly appreciate the camaraderie, support, help and most of all, brotherhood that is Tradgang.  I have taken, and continue to take advice and information from this site to my benefit (and Terry, as soon as I get my pay pal account squared away, I'll put money where my mouth is     )

I have said all the above to say this: I have a 64" Navajo Stick- "caddo"  that I commissioned from Roy Hall (Navajo Bows) in '04.  Specs are 55#'s at 28", has a cocobolo handle with curly maple limb veneers (very pretty bow).  The bow is in excellent shape and only has one problem - its not being used! (well, it needs a new string too)

If you, or someone you know, as a consequence of our tough economic times or other malady is in need of a good bow to shoot and/or hunt with, I am willing to ship at my expense.  The only condition I ask is, if you find you are no longer in need of the bow, please pass it to another person that is and keep the chain going.

PM me if you are interested.

Shoot Straight and God Bless!
Gaines

That is what this site is all about.  I am glad to be associated with such great and generous people.  God Bless you Gaines and everyone else who gives so much and expect nothing in return.  Ken

The bow has a new home!  I hope it brings many hours of happiness and joy to its new owner.

The camaraderie is a result of not this site but of the ability to enterface with those like us.
TG is a venue of which we share whats important to us and how we comunicate.

TG is a way that brings us 'world wide' together.  But even though some of us disagree on some things we all share the same belief of what traditional archery is.  The concepts of what revolves around our sport holds the utmost in our actions and how we present the ethics and values that others see.  We live in a time that threatens (sp) a way of life that has fed humans since the beginning of time.  We strive for the ultimate challenge and many believe it is an excuse for failure. Gaines, you have shown success in a way that promotes an unselfish example not of archery but of what the heart can share.  I am reluctant to hit the button of 'add reply" as there is that part of me that cannot explain what I would like to say.  The computer has changed all our ways of commucation.  We cannot hear or see the emotion of an individual that posts an view or opinion of what is proposed.  I'm one of the worst when it comes to expressing my views and opinions that even I when reading what I have posted wonder if I have really given a supportive attitude.

Its not the bow.  Its the heart of what you have done..............Ray..............

Two thoughts:

Gaines, you, and what you've done, are one of the reasons I'm proud to be part of this group.

Ray - I agree with everything you said except the last part.  You are clearly not "one of the worst." That was a very thoughtful, warm and very human, in the best sense of the word, post.  Yet another reason to be proud to be part of this group

Ray, I hear you loud and clear   ;)

My goal is merely to duplicate the support and generosity that is exhibited here daily.

I was fortunate to grow up in a time and place where people actually cared for one another, neighbors talked and worked with each other.  Where you didn't have to lock your house when you left to work or school (for fear that someone may need to use the phone, or get a drink of water).  Unfortunately, times and circumstances have changed over the years for lots of reasons.

This site and what it represents, makes me feel like I'm back where I grew up.  David's (Kingwouldbe) post grabbed me in the soul and reminded me of my roots.  I'm merely trying to help my neighbor, nothing more.

I should also say, since posting last night, I've come to realize there are several of our brothers and sisters that are in need.  I hope to be in a position to help more of them out soon.  Its what makes this site special.... like home.
