Title: New camping neighbors
Post by: A.S. on August 28, 2009, 06:38:00 PM
I took the family camping in the Shenandoah National Park this week. Here are a couple of our neighbors. The one bedded by the tent stayed there all day.

What a shame we can't have a hunt up there.   :banghead:

The kids get a real kick out of looking at the deer that close up.

Don't woory Billy....I was trying! The park ranger thought the bedded buck was sick since he had layed there all day letting everyone get within 10 yards without looking at him. I offered my services.....to no avail!

He eventually got up, shoot it off, and went back to feeding. He must have just been having a bad day.

Ok Allen.....I'll buy that excuse....for a minute there I thought maybe you were slipping.

Great pics....they are fun to look at even when you can't shoot them.

That is too cool. Almost like the doe that plays chase in my yard with my black lab.

Back when I ,too, was a young buck, I had a few days like that. Usually it's nothing that a good nap can't take care of  ;)

Just waiting for a cookie, I guess. That's not natural! Could even be dangerous when the velvet comes off.

Don, it was hard keeping the kids away from them. I still didn't trust them....even in velvet.

I work at a State park here in NY, and although nothing quite as nice as that buck, I get "danger" close with numerous critters on a daily basis...I get really close to the animals too.  :goldtooth:

Awesome pics, Im sure the kids will hold on to that for life.

You wouldn't need a bow there, just hold an apple in one hand and a hammer in the other.  No blood trailing needed.  Been there a few times this was not a rare occasion (having deer in camp) bedding on the tent is weird though. I do remember a skunk incident...that's another story though.

He looks very healthy to me and sometimes they just want to hang around camp themselves...They know it's safe and not hunting season...That is that sixth sense kicking in...Cool Pic ...
